the covenant revealed

The morning sun finally broke through the dense fog over the Blackwood Estate, bathing the grand stone mansion in crisp, clear light.

For the first time in fifteen years, the shadow of Victor Blackwood’s immediate lies had been dismantled.

In the formal dining room, Emma sat at the long mahogany table, wearing a brand-new pink sweater provided by the estate staff. She was happily eating a plate of warm pancakes, her small face bright, her pale blue eyes sparkling with childhood relief.

Anna sat beside her, sipping tea, her face still pale from fever and exhaustion, but a soft, genuine smile finally gracing her lips as she watched her daughter eat.

Lucas stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the rear gardens, a cup of black coffee in his hand. Harold walked into the room, holding a leather folder containing the signed federal warrants for Julian Mercer and the remnants of Victoria Moretti's Boston network.

"The federal marshals just picked up Julian from the cellar, sir," Harold reported quietly, stopping beside Lucas. "He’s facing forty years for fraud, kidnapping, and syndicate racketeering. He won't ever see the outside of a prison wall again."

Lucas took a sip of his coffee. "And Victoria?"

"She crossed the state line back into New York two hours ago," Harold replied. "Her tactical team has scattered. She knows she lost her grip on Boston."

"She didn't lose, Harold," Lucas said, his voice dropping slightly so Anna couldn't hear. "She just moved the chessboard back to her home turf."

Harold frowned. "What do you mean, Lucas?"

Lucas pulled his phone from his coat, displaying the photograph of the little dark-haired girl in Brooklyn. Harold looked down at the screen, his breath catching in his throat as he recognized the sharp features and piercing dark eyes instantly.

"My God..." Harold whispered. "She looks just like you when you were seven."

"Her name is Sarah," Lucas said softly. "Named after Anna’s mother. My father placed her in St. Jude’s Convent seven years ago, right after she was born in Maine. Don Vito Moretti knows she is the true biological heir to the three-billion-dollar trust."

"If Vito takes her to Italy..." Harold realized, his eyes widening, "...he can force a legal guardianship through the Vatican courts. He gets total control of the trust without ever needing Emma or Anna."

"Which is why I'm going to New York tonight," Lucas said firmly.

"Lucas, you can't go to New York alone!" Harold warned urgently. "New York is Moretti territory. Don Vito has two hundred armed men, three precinct captains, and half the judiciary in his pocket! You step into Brooklyn, and you're stepping into a kill zone!"

"Then I won't step into Brooklyn as a guest," Lucas said, his eyes darkening with cold, strategic fire. "I'll step into Brooklyn as the head of the Blackwood family."

He turned back toward the table. Anna was looking at him, having caught the serious tone of their conversation. She set her teacup down slowly.

"Lucas..." Anna said, standing up and walking toward the window. "You're leaving, aren't you?"

Lucas looked down at her. "I have to finish this, Anna. For all of us."

"Is it about... the real baby?" she asked, her voice cracking slightly, though her eyes remained brave.

Lucas reached into his coat and pulled out the photograph of little Sarah in Brooklyn. He handed it to Anna.

Anna took the small picture with trembling hands. As her eyes landed on the dark-haired girl with Lucas’s eyes, tears filled her pale blue eyes once more—not tears of grief, but of a profound, motherly recognition.

"She's beautiful, Lucas," Anna whispered, her thumb gently brushing over the dark hair in the photo. "She has your stare."

"I'm going to bring her home," Lucas promised softly, placing his large hand over hers. "And when I do... we become a real family. All four of us."

Anna looked up into his eyes, seeing the ruthless boss completely replaced by the man who loved her. She nodded gently, pressing her cheek against his hand. "Bring our daughter home, Lucas."

Two hours later, a fleet of three black armored SUVs pulled up to the front entrance of the Blackwood Estate.

Lucas stood in the grand foyer, wearing his sharp black suit and heavy wool coat. Harold stood beside him, holding two tactical duffel bags loaded with satellite comms and heavy equipment.

Emma ran up to Lucas, wrapping her small arms around his knee. Lucas dropped to one knee, looking at his small, brave daughter.

"Are you going on another important job, Daddy?" Emma asked, her eyes big and curious.

Lucas smiled softly—a rare, genuine smile that transformed his intimidating face completely. He reached out and adjusted the collar of her new sweater, just as she had worn the oversized apron the night before.

"I'm going to fetch your little sister," Lucas said gently. "I need you to look after your mom while I'm gone. Can you do that for me?"

Emma stood up straight, puffing out her chest with fierce pride. "I'm the best cleaner in the house. I'll take care of everything!"

Lucas chuckled softly, standing up and pressing a gentle kiss to Anna’s forehead.

"Harold is in charge of estate security," Lucas told Anna. "The house is on full lockdown. No one gets in or out without my code."

"Be careful in New York, Lucas," Anna whispered, her eyes shining with love and concern.

Lucas nodded once, turned, and walked out the grand double doors into the bright morning sun. He stepped into the back of the lead SUV, and the convoy tore down the driveway, heading south toward the interstate leading straight to New York City.

The direct war for Boston had ended in absolute victory.

The traitors were in prison, the estate was safe, the mother and daughter were secure, and Lucas had embraced his true role as a father and leader.

Payoff had been fully delivered.

The heavy SUV sped along the coastal highway, the grey ocean churning on the left. Lucas sat in the back seat, staring at the satellite map of Brooklyn glowing on his tactical tablet screen.

His phone buzzed. A encrypted text message arrived from an unregistered number in Rome.

Lucas opened the message.

It wasn't text. It was an old scanned document from 1996—a secret papal covenant signed by his late father, Victor Blackwood, and Don Vito Moretti thirty years ago.

Lucas scrolled down to the bottom of the parchment.

Beneath Victor’s signature was a list of four biological children registered under the Blackwood bloodline covenant.

Child 1: Lucas Blackwood.

Child 2: Sarah Blackwood (Deceased).

Child 3: Sarah Carter (Illegitimate).

Lucas’s eyes widened as he scrolled down to the fourth line.

There was a fourth child registered under his father’s bloodline—a child born twenty-four years ago in New York.

Child 4: Julian Mercer Jr.

Lucas stared at the screen, his breath catching in his throat.

Julian Mercer wasn't just Victor’s financial adviser.

Julian Mercer was Lucas’s half-brother.

Which meant the young woman who had died six years ago in Maine—Clara Mercer, Emma’s biological mother—was Lucas’s biological niece.

And Emma... was a direct Blackwood by blood after all.

Lucas slowly leaned back against the leather seat, his mind spinning into dark, uncharted territory.

If Emma was a direct Blackwood... why had the DNA report on the USB drive shown 0.00% relation?

Who had tampered with the laboratory report three weeks ago?

Before Lucas could process the horrifying contradiction, his tablet screen flickered wildly.

The satellite tracking map vanished, replaced by a live video feed from a high-definition security camera.

The camera was looking down from a high angle into a dimly lit, luxurious penthouse in Manhattan.

Sitting in a high-backed leather chair near a roaring fireplace was an elderly man with pristine white hair, wearing an expensive tailored suit, holding a silver walking cane with an ivory skull top.

Don Vito Moretti.

Sitting on the couch across from Don Vito, drinking a glass of scotch, looking completely relaxed and uninjured... was Marcus Vance.

And standing right behind Don Vito’s chair, holding a stack of legal documents... was Anna Carter’s mother, Sarah Carter—the woman who had supposedly died twenty years ago in New Hampshire.

The live video feed suddenly froze, and a single line of text flashed across the glowing tablet screen:

May you like

Welcome to New York, Lucas. Your real mother has been waiting for you.

Lucas stared at the frozen screen in absolute, speechless horror as the SUV roared across the New York state line into the dark, gathering dusk.
