Chapter 10

The storm over Lake Michigan cleared by six o'clock in the morning. A brilliant, golden autumn dawn broke over the horizon, casting warm sunlight through the tall arched windows of the Moretti estate.

Inside the grand living room, the damage was being cleared by loyal staff, while the golden sunlight illuminated the plush carpets and polished wood.

Sitting on a soft velvet sofa in the center of the room was three-year-old Sophia. She wore a clean pale-yellow floral dress, her golden-brown curls styled with her matching yellow ribbon. She was giggling happily as she walked back and forth across the rug, pushing a small wooden toy cart with total ease, her small pale-yellow shoes tapping firmly against the floorboards.

Sitting on the sofa beside her was Hannah. She wore a comfortable pale-yellow cardigan over a simple dress, her blonde-brown hair resting softly over her shoulders, her warm face glowing as she watched the little girl play.

The heavy doors opened, and Luca walked into the room.

He was dressed in a fresh, tailored black suit, his dark brown hair neatly combed back, his sharp jawline clean. Though his muscular body carried the strain of the night's battle, his piercing dark eyes held an absolute, unshakeable peace.

Sophia looked up, her radiant smile illuminating her rosy cheeks. "Daddy!"

She ran across the room—not wobbly, but with strong, confident little steps—and threw her tiny arms around Luca's legs.

Luca dropped down onto one knee, scooping his daughter into his massive, tattooed arms, lifting her high into the air as she squealed with pure joy. He kissed her rosy cheek before setting her down softly on her feet.

"Go play in the garden, my angel," Luca murmured gently. "The sun is out."

Sophia cheered, skipping happily out through the open terrace doors into the sunlit rose gardens.

Luca stood up smoothly, turning his gaze toward Hannah, who was watching him with tears of happiness in her expressive eyes.

Luca walked over to the sofa, sitting down beside her. He reached out his large, tattooed hand, taking her soft hand into his own, his piercing eyes locking onto hers with a profound, quiet devotion.

"The traitors are gone, Hannah," Luca said softly, his deep baritone rich with genuine warmth. "The house is secure. You never have to hide, run, or work as a waitress ever again."

Hannah looked down at their joined hands, then up into his handsome, rugged face. "What happens now, Luca?"

"Now," Luca replied gently, his thumb brushing over her knuckles, "you stay here. With us. Not as a servant, and not as a guest. As Sophia's guardian... and as a part of this family."

Hannah felt her heart swell with an overwhelming sense of safety, belonging, and love. She smiled through her tears, leaning her head softly against Luca’s broad, muscular shoulder.

"I'd love that, Luca," Hannah whispered softly.

Luca wrapped his broad arm around her, holding her close against his chest as they looked out through the tall glass doors at three-year-old Sophia, who was running freely through the golden sunlight of the garden, her pale-yellow dress fluttering in the gentle morning breeze.

The dark shadows of the past were completely gone, replaced by a bright, limitless future built on courage, truth, and an everlasting, unshakeable love.
