Chapter 2

The ballroom plunged into a suffocating silence, broken only by the nervous, mocking laughter of a few wealthy guests standing behind Vivienne. They chuckled behind manicured hands, eager to align themselves with the reigning queen of the social scene. Vivienne stood tall, her chest heaving slightly, a victorious smirk plastered across her perfectly painted lips. She expected the man to cower, to flush with embarrassment, or to turn and flee under the crushing weight of her public humiliation. She had destroyed men of high status with far less.
Sylvester Stallone did none of those things. He did not break eye contact. Slowly, with a terrifying, agonizing grace, he reached up to the lapels of his soaked suit jacket.
"Are you deaf, or just terribly stupid?" Vivienne scoffed, glancing back at her friends to ensure they were admiring her cruelty. "I said, you are entirely out of your depth. People like you do not belong in a room like this."
Stallone calmly slipped his broad shoulders out of the ruined jacket. The muscles in his back and arms shifted visibly beneath his crisp, dark dress shirt, radiating a suppressed, violent energy. He draped the wet jacket over the back of a nearby velvet chair, smoothing the fabric with an almost tender precision. His silence was deafening. It was not the silence of a victim; it was the silence of a predator calculating the exact angle of the kill.
"I am speaking to you," Vivienne hissed, her smirk faltering slightly as a cold knot of unease formed in her stomach. She hated his calm. It undermined her power. She raised her hand, her diamond bracelet flashing, and pointed aggressively toward the swinging doors of the service corridor at the back of the hall.
"Get out before you embarrass me!" Vivienne demanded, her voice raising to a shrill, commanding pitch.
"I think you have done a fine job of embarrassing yourself," Stallone finally spoke. His voice was a deep, gravelly rumble, resonating with a terrifying authority that seemed to vibrate the very crystal in the chandeliers above.
Vivienne’s eyes went wide with fury. "How dare you speak to me? Security! I want this trash removed from my gala immediately!"
She took a step forward, raising her hand as if to shove him back. It was the worst mistake of her life.

Before her hand could even bridge the distance between them, Stallone moved. The motion was so fast, so blindingly quick, that the human eye could barely track it. He delivered a hard, open-handed slap across Vivienne’s face. The impact sounded like a gunshot echoing through the grand hall. The sheer force of the blow lifted Vivienne off her crimson heels. She spun violently to the side, her elegant gown twisting around her legs, and crashed back-first into a massive, ornate decorative flower arrangement.
The heavy ceramic vase shattered into a thousand jagged pieces. Water, soil, and exotic white lilies exploded across the polished marble. Vivienne collapsed into the wreckage, gasping for air, clutching her rapidly swelling, bright red cheek. The laughter in the room died instantly. The string quartet stopped playing. The entire ballroom fell into a horrified, breathless silence. Stallone stood over her, his breathing perfectly even, slowly rolling up the cuffs of his dark shirt.
