Chapter 9

The revelation hung in the quiet study like a physical weight. Mara stared at the yellowed documents, her mind reeling from the sheer impossibility of her reality. She had spent yesterday worrying about paying her electricity bill, and tonight she was standing in a Mafia boss's fortress, holding the legal key to a multi-billion-dollar empire.

"This is why Victor Bancroft tried to kill me," Mara realized softly, her brown eyes widening in horror. "If I die, the trusts default to the council."

"Precisely," Dominic said, his sharp jawline setting like stone. "Which is why tomorrow morning, I am summoning the entire emergency council to this estate. I am going to present you, the pendant, and the legal transfer documents in front of every captain in the tri-state area."

"Are you crazy?!" Mara gasped, taking a step back. "You want to bring the men who want me dead into your house?"

Dominic let out a low, dark chuckle, his piercing eyes burning with absolute confidence. "They only want you dead because they thought you were weak and alone. Tomorrow, they will see that you are standing behind my guns, backed by my entire army. In our world, strength is the only language that commands obedience."

He stepped closer to her, his large, tattooed hand reaching out to gently touch her shoulder. His broad frame radiated an overwhelming aura of safety that completely dismantled her remaining fear.

"You don't have to be afraid anymore, Mara," Dominic whispered, his deep voice carrying a rare, gentle warmth. "My father took everything from your mother. I am going to give it all back to you."

May you like

Mara looked into his dark eyes, seeing the absolute, unyielding resolve within him. She reached up and placed her small hand over his tattooed knuckles, nodding slowly.

"Okay," Mara whispered. "I trust you, Dominic."
