Chapter 9 - the final command

"He brought the whole precinct task force," Vance gasped, peeking through the blinds. "Dan, we're trapped. If we step out there, his snipers will take us down before we reach the curb."

Michael came down the stairs, joining them in the hallway. "Is there another way out through the back woods?"

"No," Daniel said, his dark eyes staring through the front window directly at Harrison's silver vehicle. "Harrison set up a full perimeter. But he made one mistake."

Daniel reached into his pocket and pulled out the micro-encryption chip he had extracted from his officer's crest. He handed it to Michael.

"Michael, your garage office has a dedicated satellite uplink for your logistics business, right?" Daniel asked.

"Yeah," Michael nodded. "Independent battery backup, completely separate from the house grid."

"Insert this chip into your reader," Daniel instructed quickly. "Broadcast the raw file directly to the Federal Internal Affairs portal and the U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago. Once that file hits the federal server, Harrison's warrant is useless."

Michael didn't waste a second. He turned and sprinted toward the garage side door.

"What do we do about the tactical squad on the lawn?" Vance asked nervously.

Daniel looked down at Rex. The old German Shepherd stood tall, his tail held high, his intelligent dark eyes looking up at his handler, ready for whatever came next.

"We buy Michael two minutes," Daniel said softly.

Daniel stepped out onto the front porch, accompanied by Vance and Rex. The blinding white floodlights illuminated them like actors on a stage.

Chief Commissioner Harrison stepped forward from behind his armored vehicle, a smug, cold smile on his aging face. "Stand down, Daniel! Toss the drive onto the grass, and we can resolve this peacefully!"

"The drive isn't on the grass, Harrison!" Daniel called out, his deep voice echoing across the silent cul-de-sac. "It's currently uploading to the Federal District Court in Chicago! Check your secure tablet!"

Harrison's smile instantly vanished. He reached into his coat, pulling out his encrypted department tablet. The screen flashed bright red with an incoming federal alert notification: CASE FILE 4012 — DECRYPTED & RECEIVED.

Harrison's face turned ashen white. He looked up at Daniel, pure, murderous rage consuming his features. "Take them down!" Harrison roared to his officers. "Open fire!"

Before any officer could raise a weapon, Rex let out a thunderous, reverberating bark!

At Daniel's hand signal, Rex charged off the porch, leaping over the porch railing and triggering the home's emergency perimeter security system via a remote transmitter clipped to his harness!

Instantaneous security sirens wailed across the entire neighborhood, and four high-decibel acoustic alarms mounted under the eaves flared to life, completely disorienting the tactical squad on the lawn!

At that exact second, three black federal suburban vehicles tore around the corner of the cul-de-sac, their red-and-blue emergency lights flashing brightly as armed federal agents poured out onto the street!

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!" a federal commander shouted through a bullhorn. "Commissioner Harrison, you are under arrest for treason, obstruction, and kidnapping!"

Harrison's tactical officers instantly lowered their weapons, realizing they had been used as pawns in a rogue commissioner's personal cover-up.

Federal agents tackled Harrison to the ground, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists while two officers rushed to the rear van to secure Vance's young daughter, Sarah, bringing her safely out into the street.
