Chapter 10 - The bloodline threshold

The brightly lit study turned into a battleground. Sylvester moved with terrifying efficiency, his muscular frame easily overpowering the corrupt agents. He didn't use a gun; he used his bare hands, disarming and incapacitating them with brutal, calculated strikes. He wasn't trying to kill them; he was trying to survive without crossing the ultimate federal line.

Vivienne didn't cower in the corner. Seeing an agent pull a secondary weapon to aim at Sylvester’s back, she grabbed a heavy bronze statue from a side table and slammed it hard into the agent's shoulder, sending his shot wide into the ceiling.

Within three minutes, the twelve agents were unconscious or groaning on the floor, heavily zip-tied by Julian.

Sylvester stood in the center of the room, breathing heavily, his suit torn, but his rugged face resolute. He looked at Vivienne, who was shaking, the bronze statue slipping from her hands.

"You fight well in a crimson dress," Sylvester said, a small, genuine smile crossing his face.

"What do we do now?" Vivienne asked, stepping over a downed agent. "If the FBI is in her pocket, she controls everything."

"Not everything," Sylvester said. He walked over to the lead agent's tactical vest and pulled out the red burner phone. He dialed a single number.

The line clicked open. "Is it done?" Eleanor’s cold voice asked.

"Your men failed, Eleanor," Sylvester said, his voice echoing loudly in the quiet room. "And while you were busy trying to assassinate us here, my associates just delivered Arthur's full confession, your financial ledgers, and the location of Vault 404 to the Director of National Intelligence. You can buy a SWAT team, Eleanor, but you can't buy the entire federal government."

There was a long, horrifying silence on the line.

"You destroyed my legacy," Eleanor whispered, her voice finally breaking with genuine defeat.

"You destroyed your own legacy the night you burned my family," Sylvester replied. He hung up the phone and crushed it under his heavy shoe.

He turned back to Vivienne and her father. "It's over. Warrants are being issued as we speak. Eleanor's assets are frozen. She will spend the rest of her miserable life in a federal black site."

Vivienne’s father slumped onto the sofa, burying his face in his hands, weeping with relief. The twenty-year nightmare was finally over.

Vivienne walked up to Sylvester, her bright blue eyes searching his face. She reached up and touched the silver locket around her neck. "Sylvester... you never finished your story. If this locket belonged to your sister, how did I get it?"

Sylvester looked at her, his dark eyes filled with a heavy, complex emotion. He reached out and gently placed his large hand over hers, resting on the locket.

"When Eleanor's men set the fire," Sylvester said softly, "they didn't realize a baby was still in the house. Your father... Arthur... he was there that night. He went against his mother's orders. He ran into the burning building and pulled the baby out."

Vivienne’s breath hitched. She looked at her father, who slowly looked up, nodding through his tears.

"Eleanor was furious," Sylvester continued. "She demanded the baby be killed. But Arthur threatened to go to the police if she touched the child. So, to keep him quiet, she made a deal. She allowed Arthur and his wife to legally adopt the baby, raising her as their own daughter in the world of high society. She erased the past."

Vivienne stepped back, the world spinning around her. Her fair, rosy skin paled completely. The arrogance, the wealth, the Cross family name... it was all a lie.

"I'm not a Cross," Vivienne whispered, the massive secret finally breaking the surface.

"No," Sylvester said gently, his rugged face softening into a look of absolute, fiercely protective loyalty. "Your name is Vivienne Stallone. You are my sister."

Vivienne stared at the man she had poured champagne on just a few nights ago. The man she had insulted, mocked, and feared. The man who had just torn down an empire to bring her back. Tears streamed down her face as she stepped forward and buried her face into her brother's chest. Sylvester wrapped his massive arms around her, holding her tight.

The door to the study suddenly clicked open. Julian stepped in, holding a secure satellite phone. His face was grim.

"Boss," Julian said, interrupting the moment. "The feds just raided Eleanor's penthouse in the city. She isn't there. She vanished. And before she left, she initiated a mass wire transfer to the Moretti crime family in Italy. She just put a fifty-million-dollar bounty on both of your heads."

Sylvester slowly pulled back from Vivienne, his eyes darkening as the mafia boss returned to the surface. He looked at his sister, who wiped her tears, her chin lifting with a new, dangerous resolve.

"Let them come," Vivienne said, her American accent crisp and fearless.

Sylvester smiled. The shadow of the elite had fallen, but the true war was just beginning.
