Chapter 6 - SILENT ALLIANCES

Damian slowly raised his head, his eyes shifting from the photograph to his security chief. The air in the corridor turned suffocatingly thick.
Marco didn't move a muscle, but his posture hardened. "Boss... I can explain that photo."
"You have five seconds before I put a bullet in your chest, Marco," Damian said, his voice dangerously soft. "Why are you in a private hospital photo with my brother's mistress four years ago?"
"She wasn't Viktor's mistress!" Mara cried out, stepping between Damian and Marco, her maternal protection overriding her fear. "Stop threatening everyone! I don't care about your family, your money, or your dangerous secrets! All I care about is keeping my daughter safe!"
Lila tugged on Damian’s trousers. When the ruthless mafia Don looked down, the four-year-old girl didn't look scared of him. She pointed her tiny thumb toward Marco, then brought her two index fingers together—the sign for friend.
Damian’s chest tightened. He looked back at Marco. "Talk."
Marco lowered his weapon slightly. "Four years ago, Viktor called me in the middle of the night. He said your wife, Elena, had fled Grayhaven House with a baby. He told me to track her down before your father's enemies found her. When I arrived at the safehouse... Elena was already dead. But Mara was there, severely injured, holding a newborn child."
"If Elena was dead, whose baby was Mara holding?" Damian demanded.
"Yours, Boss," Marco said steadily. "Lila isn't Viktor's child. She's your daughter."
Mara stumbled back, hitting the wall. "No... no, that's impossible! I gave birth to Lila! I remember the hospital—"
"You remember what they made you remember, Mara," Marco said gently, his intimidating aura softening for a fraction of a second. "The crash wiped your memory, but the Volkov doctors modified your records before dropping you in that town. They wanted everyone—including Damian—to believe the baby died in the crash."
Damian stared at Lila. The curly brown hair, the piercing blue-gray eyes—the exact shade of his own. The puzzle pieces were falling into place with terrifying precision.
Before Damian could process the revelation, his personal cell phone buzzed in his pocket.
He pulled it out. An unknown number had sent a single video file.
Damian opened the video.
The camera showed a live feed of the Grayhaven basement vault. The heavy steel door was standing wide open, and inside, a man in a dark tailored suit was loading three wooden crates onto a transport gurney.

When the man turned slightly toward the camera, Damian stopped breathing.
The face belonged to Viktor Volkov. The brother he had buried five years ago.
