Chapter 8 - the fall of the snake

Marcus Vance backed away from the table, his hands trembling as he looked around the room, realizing that every single senior boss was glaring at him with pure, unadulterated disgust.

In the Mafia underworld, territory wars were expected—but poisoning a helpless, six-year-old child was a violation of the sacred bloodline code.

Don Carmine stood up, striking his wooden gavel with deafening force. "Marcus Vance! You have committed treason against the council and dishonored our bloodline laws!"

"Carmine! Listen to me!" Vance shrieked, backing toward the side exit.

Before Vance could reach the door, Lorenzo walked around the head of the table. He moved with predatory speed, closing the twenty-foot gap in three massive strides!

Lorenzo grabbed Vance by his pinstriped collar, lifting the fifty-five-year-old mobster off his feet, and slammed him violently against the marble pillar!

"You tried to break my family, Vance," Lorenzo growled, his deep voice dropping into an icy, lethal register that made Vance weep with pure terror. "You tried to steal my son's life."

"Lorenzo... please!" Vance gasped, blood dripping from his lip. "I'll give you the docks! I'll give you everything!"

"You have nothing left," Lorenzo growled.

Federal tactical officers and Chicago police cruisers—notified by Lorenzo's legal team—burst through the ballroom doors, weapons drawn!

"Marcus Vance!" the lead federal agent bellowed. "You are under arrest for grand conspiracy, illegal chemical importation, and child endangerment!"

Federal agents clicked heavy steel handcuffs around Vance's wrists, dragging the ruined criminal out of the ballroom in front of the entire Chicago elite!

Don Carmine raised his glass toward Lorenzo. "Justice is served, Don Duca. May your son recover in peace."

The gathered bosses stood up as one, raising their glasses in silent, unanimous respect for Lorenzo Duca.
