Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Empire

The boardroom descended into absolute chaos as federal agents stepped forward, placing heavy steel handcuffs onto Julian Moretti’s wrists.

"Julian Moretti, you are under arrest for industrial chemical negligence, corporate embezzlement, and conspiracy to commit extortion," the lead federal agent declared, reading him his rights.

Julian struggled against the agents, his arrogant facade completely shattered. He glared at Nathan with pure venom. "You think you've won, Nathan? Sarah is still poisoned! That factory destroyed her lungs! She won't survive the month!"

Nathan stepped closer to his uncle, leaning down until his eyes were inches from Julian's face.

"My medical team retrieved the non-redacted chemical manufacturing logs from your private office an hour ago, Julian," Nathan whispered in a low, lethal voice. "Dr. Marcus already synthesized the specific neutralizing counter-agent. Sarah’s second treatment began thirty minutes ago. She is going to live a long, healthy life."

Julian gasped, realization dawning on him that his leverage was completely gone. The agents pulled him out of the boardroom, his desperate shouts fading down the executive hallway.

Nathan turned back to face the remaining members of the board, who were sitting in stunned, terrified silence.

Richard Vance stood in the corner, trembling, waiting for his own arrest.

"Every board member who signed off on Vanguard Textiles’ operations will surrender their executive seats by noon today," Nathan announced, his voice cool and unyielding. "Moretti Enterprises is returning to its founding principles. And fifty percent of all profits from our industrial divisions will be redirected into a private health foundation managed by Sarah Bennett."

The board members nodded frantically, eager to comply to avoid federal prosecution.

Nathan turned to Lily, who was sitting quietly in the large leather executive chair. She looked up at him with her sharp gray-blue eyes, a soft, proud smile playing on her lips.

Nathan knelt beside her chair, taking her small hand into his. "How did I do, little weaver?"

Lily reached out and adjusted the lapel of his navy suit jacket with her delicate fingers. "You did good, Daddy. But the stitching on your pocket is a little crooked."

Nathan laughed warmly, pulling his daughter into a tight embrace as the sunlight flooded through the boardroom windows.
