Chapter 10 - the threshold of tomorrow

Six months later, the dark clouds that had hung over the Beacon Hill mansion for decades had completely cleared.

The heavy mahogany bookcase in the study had been restored, but the hidden door was now permanently opened, converted into a bright, sunlit sunroom filled with fresh white lilies and oil paintings. Sophia spent her afternoons there, laughing and drinking tea with her dear friend’s daughter, Grace.

It was a warm summer evening. The garden lights cast a golden glow across the manicured lawns of the estate.

In the courtyard, little Mia was chasing fireflies in a new light-blue dress, her laughter echoing through the quiet air, while fourteen-month-old baby Lily took her very first wobbly steps across the grass toward Dante, who was watching over them with a soft, rare smile on his giant face.

Standing on the high marble balcony overlooking the garden were Roman and Grace.

Grace wore a simple, elegant rose-pink sundress, her soft brown hair falling gently over her shoulders. She looked at peace, her eyes shining with happiness as she watched her daughters play safely below.

Roman stood behind her, his large, warm hands resting comfortably on her waist, his muscular chest pressed lightly against her back. The fearsome Mafia boss had found something he thought he had lost forever twenty years ago—a home.

"You look happy, Grace," Roman murmured softly into her ear, his deep voice filled with undeniable warmth.

Grace turned in his arms, smiling up into his rugged, handsome face, resting her hands on his broad chest. "We are happy, Roman. All of us."

Roman leaned down, pressing a tender, long-awaited kiss onto her lips, sealing a bond that had been forged through fire, secrets, and fate.

As they pulled back, looking into each other's eyes, Dante walked up the balcony steps holding a silver tray with a single, wax-sealed letter delivered from an international courier.

"Boss," Dante said quietly. "This just arrived from the private bank in London. It belonged to your late father."

Roman broke the seal and opened the parchment inside. Written in his father's bold handwriting was a single line that made his jaw tighten once more:

May you like

If you are reading this, Sophia is safe. But beware of the third key... it belongs to the child born in secret.

Roman closed the letter slowly, looking back out at little Mia laughing in the garden, leaving the next chapter of the Duca family legacy hanging on the edge of an extraordinary new mystery...
