Chapter 1

The crystal chandeliers of the Moretti mansion cast a brilliant, warm glow across the imported Italian marble floors, creating a cinematic wash of bright, vibrant colors throughout the grand ballroom. It was a day of extravagant celebration, marking the eighth birthday of Ethan Moretti. Laughter and soft classical music drifted through the air, completely masking the dark, dangerous reality of the family’s true business. The room was filled with the elite, all dressed in their finest attire, their fair and rosy complexions glowing under the radiant lighting.
At the head of the massive dining table sat Dominic Moretti, a feared and immensely powerful Mafia Boss. Despite his ruthless reputation, today he was simply a father. He was a tall, muscular man, ruggedly handsome with thick dark hair and a shadow of light stubble across his strong jawline. He wore an elegant, perfectly tailored white suit over an open-collar white dress shirt that subtly revealed the dark ink of tattoos on his chest. A luxury wristwatch caught the light as he raised his glass. He was deeply masculine, possessing an intense, commanding presence that demanded absolute respect, yet he remained frighteningly calm.
"To my son, Ethan," Dominic announced, his deep American accent resonating through the room. "May your eighth year bring you as much joy as you have brought into my life."
"Thank you, Father," Ethan replied with a gentle, polite smile. The young boy, well-mannered and deeply loved, looked incredibly handsome in his elegant navy suit and crisp white shirt. His polished shoes dangled just inches above the floor as he sat in the seat of honor.
Watching from the perimeter of the room was Elena, Dominic’s longtime head housekeeper. She was a beautiful, hardworking woman with soft brown hair pulled back neatly, dressed in a pristine pale-blue maid uniform and a crisp white apron. She was fiercely protective of her daughter, Lily, who was currently playing near the towering, multi-tiered birthday cake. Lily, only three years old, was a tiny, brave, and unusually observant toddler with curly brown hair, looking absolutely adorable in a bright yellow party dress and small pink shoes.
"Elena, the cake looks magnificent," Dominic said, offering his housekeeper a rare, genuine smile. "You outdid yourself this year."
"Thank you, Mr. Moretti. Only the best for Ethan," Elena replied warmly, bowing her head slightly. "The kitchen staff worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was perfect."
"It is perfect," Ethan added, his eyes wide with anticipation as a server cut the first large slice. "Can I have the piece with the sugar dragon on it?"
"Of course you can, buddy," Dominic chuckled, gesturing for the server to place the plate in front of his son.
The server carefully set the delicate china plate down. Ethan picked up his silver fork, his eyes gleaming with excitement. He pressed the edge of the fork into the soft, rich frosting, lifting a generous piece toward his mouth. The room was filled with smiling faces, a picture of perfect, untouchable wealth and happiness.
Suddenly, a flash of bright yellow darted across the marble floor. Lily, moving with a speed and determination completely uncharacteristic for a three-year-old, ran directly toward the head of the table. She didn't hesitate or slow down.
With a fierce, fearless swing of her tiny arm, Lily smacked the china plate right out of Ethan’s hand.
The plate shattered against the polished marble floor. The rich cake and thick frosting splattered across the pristine stones, ruining the perfect moment in an instant. The soft classical music seemed to halt, and a collective gasp echoed from the guests.

"Lily!" Elena screamed, her voice trembling with shock and terror. "What on earth are you doing?!"
