Chapter 9 - The crescent connection

Juliet’s head snapped up. She looked from the doctor to Ethan, all the warmth draining from her body. "What file? Who do you think I am?"
Ethan sighed, rubbing his tired eyes. He nodded to the doctor, who quietly left the room. Ethan looked down at Juliet, his intense gaze locking onto hers.
"Twenty years ago, my family's car was run off the road by a hired mercenary," Ethan began, his voice rough. "My parents were killed. I was paralyzed. The man who saved my life, who pulled me from the burning wreckage before it exploded, was a security guard. He gave me his necklace to hold onto while we waited for the ambulance. He promised he would come back for it."
Juliet was trembling. "My father."
"Yes," Ethan said softly. "But your father didn't just save me, Juliet. He was the one who was framed for the accident. The people who wanted my family dead pinned it on him. He disappeared to keep you and your mother safe from the people hunting him."

Juliet couldn't process it. The man she was caring for, the man who was currently saving her son’s life, was the center of the tragedy that had destroyed her family.
"I've spent twenty years trying to find him," Ethan continued, his voice tight with emotion. "Trying to clear his name. When I saw your resume, I recognized your last name. I brought you here to protect you, because the people who framed your father have realized I'm close to uncovering the truth."
