Chapter 7 - the truth behind the curtain

"Vincent, listen to me!" Dominic begged, his smooth lawyer tone vanishing into desperate panic. "She was confused! The recording... it's a forgery! I would never betray you!"
Vincent didn't raise his voice. He stood up from his desk, his fitted black shirt accentuating his muscular frame as he walked slowly toward Dominic.
"You took my wife," Vincent said quietly. "And you tried to steal my daughter's mind."
He turned his head toward the door, signaling the guards. "Take him to the sub-basement. Nobody touches him until I come down."
The bodyguards grabbed Dominic by the arms. Without a word, they dragged the pale, struggling attorney out of the room, the heavy double doors slamming shut behind them.
The therapy room was quiet once again.
Vincent turned back toward the sofa. Isabella was sitting close to the maid, holding the gray stuffed rabbit. For the first time in six months, the distant, glazed look in Isabella's eyes was gone. She looked up at her father with complete clarity.
Ellie looked up at Vincent with her bright, innocent eyes, touching her red dress. "Is the box fixed now, mister?"

Vincent walked over, sinking down onto his knees before the two little girls. He looked at Ellie, then at her gentle mother, who was sitting with her hands neatly folded in her lap, tears of relief glinting in her eyes.
"Yes, Ellie," Vincent said softly, a rare, genuine smile touching his rugged face. "The box is fixed."
