Chapter 6 - the raid on the docks

By 9:00 PM, a freezing rain began to fall over the Chicago riverfront, casting long amber reflections across the dark water of the industrial docks.

A convoy of four heavy black armored SUVs pulled up to the perimeter of Pier 42—a massive, private shipping warehouse owned by Dominic Moretti's shell companies.

Luca stepped out of the lead vehicle, wrapped in a heavy black wool overcoat over his dark suit, his broad frame dominating the wet pavement. Beside him walked Marcus, flanked by twelve heavily armed Moretti enforcers in dark tactical gear.

"Perimeter is locked, boss," Marcus reported in a low voice. "Dominic's private security team is inside preparing to load three iron crates onto a cargo ship heading for Montreal."

"Move in," Luca commanded flatly.

The Moretti enforcers breached the warehouse side doors with swift, silent precision.

Inside the sprawling, dimly lit warehouse, Dominic Moretti stood beside a heavy wooden crate, shouting orders to four mercenaries who were loading stacks of bearer bonds and illegal firearms into shipping containers.

"Hurry up!" Dominic barked, his charcoal suit disheveled, his eyes wild with frantic desperation. "Before Luca's men trace the bank transfers!"

"You're too late, uncle," Luca's thunderous voice echoed through the high steel rafters.

Dominic spun around in pure terror.

Luca walked out from the shadow of the central crane, holding his heavy silver revolver with effortless, terrifying precision.

Dominic's mercenaries reached for their weapons, but six Moretti enforcers instantly locked them in red laser beams, forcing them to drop their arms onto the concrete floor.

Luca walked up to his uncle, stopping two feet away. His dark eyes burned with an icy, lethal fury that made the older man tremble.

"You stole forty million dollars from my family, Dominic," Luca said, each word heavy as lead. "You tried to murder my wife and daughter. And you kept my child in a wheelchair for three years."

"Luca... please!" Dominic whimpered, his arrogant facade completely shattered as he fell to his knees on the wet concrete. "I am your father's brother! You can't kill your own blood!"

"I'm not going to kill you, uncle," Luca growled softly, leaning down until his sharp face was inches from Dominic's. "You are going to spend the rest of your life in a federal maximum-security prison while my daughter watches you lose everything."

Federal agents, alerted by Clare and Luca's legal team, burst through the warehouse doors, clicking heavy iron handcuffs around Dominic's wrists and dragging him away into the dark forever.
