Chapter 9

The evidence against Lucinda became stronger because she kept trying to manage it.

She contacted an old household assistant.

Remember Juliet was unstable. The court will ask.

The assistant turned over the message.

She contacted the retired obstetrician.

You always said the second notation was clerical confusion.

He turned over the message too.

He also admitted something.

“I suspected the final discharge paperwork was wrong.”

“Why didn’t you correct it?”

“Because Valenti security was everywhere, and Ms. Lucinda said Mr. Valenti wanted privacy.”

“Did Dominic tell you that?”

“No.”

“Did Juliet?”

“No.”

“Then who?”

“Lucinda.”

Then investigators found the most important document.

A video file buried in an old nursery camera.

Low-resolution.

No sound for parts.

But clear enough.

Juliet sitting between the two cribs.

Two newborns.

Maisie.

Iris.

Juliet holding up a handwritten page toward the camera.

The page read:

Dominic, if you see this, I did not leave them. I am trying to get them out safely. Ask Rebecca. Ask Marianne. Do not trust Lucinda with my papers.

Dominic watched the video once.

Then asked to see it again.

No one spoke.

The file did not prove Lucinda caused Juliet’s death.

It did prove Juliet anticipated exactly where the records might disappear.

Lucinda’s claim that the second baby was delusion collapsed.

The clues were now aligned.

Two cribs.

Feeding logs.

Court petition.

False service.

Edited discharge note.

Juliet’s video.

And Lucinda’s threat in the ballroom.

Open that room, and you lose your daughter.

She had known the room contained enough truth to reopen everything.
