Chapter 5 - Raymond calls it succession training

Police interviewed my father two days later.

His attorney was present.

Raymond did not deny the notebook.

Did not deny ordering the quiet-room sessions.

He denied abuse.

He called the exercises:

“succession training adapted for childhood.”

The detective reportedly asked:

“Succession to what?”

Raymond answered:

“Responsibility.”

He believed that.

That made it worse.

The notebook contained thirty-six pages related to family hierarchy.

Only eleven concerned Sofia directly.

Others involved adult relatives.

Who should be invited to council meetings.

Who received speaking priority.

Who had:

“demonstrated insufficient institutional loyalty.”

My father had developed a scoring system.

Family service.

Public conduct.

Marriage stability.

Business contribution.

Deference to senior leadership.

He had no legal authority to enforce most of it.

But tradition made people care.

Sofia was the youngest direct descendant of my branch.

My only child.

The person who would eventually inherit substantial trust interests.

Raymond believed I was raising her:

“without institutional identity.”

Translation:

Like a child instead of an heir.

His tests aimed to determine whether she would accept family authority above parental indulgence.

One notebook entry:

J relies too heavily on rescue. Child must understand paternal authority remains subordinate to house.

That was why he told her:

Daddy can’t always save you.

He was not merely punishing Sofia.

He was using her to discipline me.

A five-year-old became the object through which my father intended to reassert control over his forty-two-year-old son.

Once I saw that, the entire dinner changed meaning.

He expected me to hear the scream.

He expected me not to interfere.

FINAL AUTHORITY TEST.

Julian must not interfere.

He believed if I obeyed publicly, everyone would understand the old hierarchy still existed.

Instead I opened the door.

Then ended the proxy.

My father later called that:

“an emotional coup.”

No.

The governance documents had been prepared months before.

His treatment of Sofia determined timing.

Not substance.

That distinction saved us from one accusation later.

I had not fabricated corporate reform as revenge.

I had already decided the structure was unhealthy.

May you like

My daughter showed me how unhealthy.
