Chapter 3

The heavy oak door of the VIP room clicked softly as Luca engaged the deadbolt, sealing himself, Hannah, and his daughter away from the rest of his security detail. He turned back to the room, his thick dark brown hair falling slightly over his forehead, his piercing eyes radiating a terrifying, calculated coldness. He walked over to the small crystal wet bar, poured a glass of water, and handed it to Hannah.

"Drink," Luca ordered gently, the sharp contrast between his intimidating Mafia boss persona and his sudden care jarring the room's tension. "You are in shock. And Sophia needs you to remain calm."

Hannah took the glass with trembling hands, her white lace trim fluttering. She took a slow sip, her warm face pale but resolute. "Are you going to kill me, Mr. Moretti? Because I know about the traitor?"

"Kill the woman who saved my daughter's life?" Luca asked, letting out a dark, humorless chuckle. He stepped back, resting his muscular frame against the heavy wooden desk. "Hannah, in my world, loyalty is everything. Three years ago, a stranger took a bullet to draw a hit squad away from my infant child. You gave up your life, your career, and your real name to ensure she survived. I don't want to kill you. I want to build a monument in your honor."

"I don't want a monument," Hannah whispered, looking down at Sophia’s sleeping face, gently stroking the girl’s curly golden-brown hair. "I just wanted to see her one more time. When I saw the catering company was assigned to your charity gala, I almost quit. But I couldn't. I needed to know she was okay. I didn't expect her to remember me. She was only a baby."

"Trauma imprints heavily on the mind," Luca explained, his deep voice carrying a heavy burden of sorrow. "Sophia hasn't walked since that night. My private doctors, the best specialists in the world, all told me her spine was perfectly fine. They said her inability to walk was purely a psychosomatic block. A hysterical paralysis triggered by the extreme terror of the gunfire and the loss of her mother."

"And tonight..." Hannah breathed, her expressive eyes widening in awe as she looked at Sophia's pale-yellow shoes. "Seeing me..."

"Seeing the woman who made her feel safe broke the psychological barrier," Luca finished, his intense eyes softening with a rare, profound gratitude as he looked at the waitress. "You didn't just save her life three years ago, Hannah. You gave her her legs back tonight. You gave me my daughter back."

A heavy, emotional silence settled over the room. Hannah closed her eyes, a fresh wave of quiet tears slipping down her rosy cheeks. She hugged the little girl tighter, the mint-green fabric of her dress wrinkling under the embrace.

Suddenly, a sharp, aggressive knock hammered against the heavy oak door.

"Mr. Moretti!" a harsh, urgent voice called out from the hallway. "It's Marcus. The perimeter is fully locked down. We need to move you and Sophia to the armored convoy immediately. There's a credible threat on the premises."

Hannah’s breath hitched. Her warm face went completely ghostly pale. She looked up at Luca, her tearful eyes wide with absolute, paralyzing terror.

"That's him," Hannah whispered frantically, her voice barely audible. "Mr. Moretti... the voice at the door. That is the man who opened the nursery wing three years ago. I remember his voice. I swear to God, that's him."

Luca’s jaw clenched so tightly the muscles visibly rippled beneath his light stubble. The man outside the door, Marcus, was his current head of security.

"Stay exactly where you are," Luca whispered, his tone dropping into a deadly, ice-cold register as he reached beneath his tailored black suit jacket.
