Chapter 10

Althea did not hide the bracelet in the kennel because it solved Celia’s disappearance.
That was the major twist.
The kennel itself was the original weapon used to make Celia disappear.
Althea had planned to frame Celia as an unstable mother who locked Posie in a dog kennel during a breakdown.
The first clue was the bracelet listed as jewelry Celia supposedly wore when she ran, even though it remained inside the kennel.
The second was Posie’s memory that her mother opened the cage and cried.
The third was the goodbye email sent from the mansion office using access tied to Althea.
The fourth was Celia’s handwritten warning:
She will use the kennel if I cannot get Posie out first.
The fifth was Althea’s own text:
If she won’t sign, the scene still tells the story.
Althea’s motive was not jealousy alone.
It was survival.
Celia had uncovered the foundation fraud and was preparing to go to authorities.
If Celia reached that meeting, Althea’s contracts, vendors, and public reputation would collapse.
So Althea turned Celia’s greatest fear into a trap.
Celia feared Rourke’s criminal life made their daughter unsafe.
Althea created a scene where Celia would look unsafe.
A child in a kennel.
A mother blamed.
A false goodbye.
Missing jewelry.
A husband too proud and too compromised to call police immediately.
Althea did not need Rourke to believe every detail forever.
She needed him to believe enough for the first forty-eight hours.
Enough to contaminate the scene.
Enough to scare witnesses.
Enough to let the official story form around Celia as a runaway mother.
The bracelet survived because the plan was messy.
Celia lost it while freeing Posie.
Althea either missed it or could not retrieve it without returning to the kennel after the household became chaotic.
Years later, she began using the kennel again because it still worked.
It hid Posie from guests.
It punished her for speaking about her mother.
And it reinforced the old lie:
Bad little strays belong in cages.
But children grow.
They remember.
They point.
And this time, Rourke opened the kennel in front of witnesses.

Althea had built the story around his secrecy.
He broke it by letting outsiders in.
