Chapter 9

The old photographs became crucial.

They showed Posie asleep in the kennel.

Not from the night of the garden party.

From four years earlier.

The metadata had been altered, but not perfectly.

A forensic analyst recovered the original timestamps.

The photos were taken before Celia supposedly locked Posie inside.

From Althea’s phone.

That was clue five.

Althea had photographed the child in the kennel before claiming Celia caused it.

Then another file appeared.

A draft statement written for Celia.

I am unwell. I frightened my daughter. I need to leave before I become worse.

It was never signed.

The document metadata linked it to Althea’s laptop.

Then a text from Althea to her security chief:

If she won’t sign, the scene still tells the story.

That sentence changed everything.

The kennel was never just punishment.

It was staged evidence.

Althea intended to make Celia look like an abusive, unstable mother before Celia could expose the foundation scheme.

If Celia signed, she disappeared as a shamed wife.

If she refused, Althea had photographs, a caged child, and a powerful Mafia husband who would avoid police to protect the family name.

Rourke had done exactly what Althea expected.

He handled it privately.

He searched privately.

He grieved privately.

And in doing so, he helped bury the public record Celia had needed.

That did not make him the person who caged Posie.

May you like

It made him the man whose power gave the cage its usefulness.

Part 10 would make the full design clear.
