Chapter 11

Northbridge did not destroy Harbor Point.
It took control of the cash.
The bank froze discretionary draws, installed an independent construction consultant, and required every major payment to follow enhanced review.
Contractors complained.
Some threatened to slow work.
A few subcontractors demanded faster payment.
The project remained alive.
Ashbourne returned with its harsher rescue proposal.
Lenora called accepting it “surrender.”
Rusk Development’s independent directors called it solvency.
They approved it.
Ashbourne invested $29 million after updated diligence.
It received sixty-eight percent voting control of Harbor Point’s project entity after negotiations.
Gavin was removed as project manager.
Lenora lost governance authority over the project.
Neither became poor.
Rusk Development still owned other assets.
The family still had wealth.
What they lost was the control they had been willing to commit crimes to preserve.
Northbridge continued funding under revised terms.
Harbor Point construction resumed on a more realistic schedule.
No fantasy collapse.
No innocent labor force sacrificed to family melodrama.
Then Bianca and Luca went home.
Not to the Rusk house.
To her own apartment, which she had kept since before marriage and rented out part-time to a family friend. The friend moved voluntarily after Bianca compensated her remaining lease period.
Marcello offered his estate.
Bianca refused.
“Too many people.”
He tried not to look offended.
“Too many guns.”
That part he understood.
He paid for licensed outside residential security after Bianca’s lawyer approved the arrangement, but the guards reported to a professional firm.
Not to Marcello’s criminal organization.
The divorce court entered temporary parenting orders.
Because Gavin faced criminal investigation and because of the hospital conduct, any contact involving newborn Luca began under professional supervision after medical clearance.
Bianca did not receive automatic sole lifetime control merely because Gavin had behaved terribly.
Family court moved on evidence and safety.
Gavin attended the first permitted visit.
He cried.
Bianca was not present.
The supervisor later reported that he held Luca carefully and followed every instruction.
That fact did not resolve anything.
People capable of coercion could also love their children.
Courts had to handle both truths.
Then Marcello’s property companies received subpoenas.
The records he preserved created unrelated questions.
Two vendor arrangements involved men under existing law-enforcement scrutiny.
One mixed-use property had reporting deficiencies around cash-paying commercial tenants.
Tax counsel amended several filings.
A licensing agency assessed a penalty tied to recordkeeping.
Marcello did not blame Bianca.
May you like
At least not out loud.
She noticed the progress.
