Chương 9 - the family home

Three months later, a brilliant autumn sun shone bright and warm over the manicured lawns of the Vane estate.
The dark clouds that had hung over the family were completely gone. The traitors had been cleared, the European trust was fully operational under a clean charitable foundation, and peace had returned to the home.
Out on the sunlit stone terrace overlooking the lake, four-year-old Maya and three-year-old Lily ran happily across the green grass, chasing a small golden retriever puppy Ryan had bought for their birthday. Their bright, innocent laughter echoed warmly across the quiet grounds.
Sitting at a white wrought-iron table on the terrace were Ryan and Emily.
Emily wore a simple white linen dress, her brown hair loose over her shoulders, her fair skin glowing in the afternoon sun. She looked beautiful, serene, and completely free of the anxiety that had guarded her face for months.
Ryan sat beside her, wearing a simple white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up over his tattooed forearms, looking more relaxed and content than his men had ever seen him in his entire life. He reached out, gently taking Emily's hand in his broad, calloused palm.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" Ryan asked softly, his dark eyes filled with deep warmth.
Emily looked out at the two little girls playing on the lawn, then smiled at him. "I was thinking about how a narrow gap in a wall brought our family together."
"It wasn't a gap in the wall, Emily," Ryan murmured gently, leaning in to place a soft kiss on her cheek. "It was Luke bringing his daughter home to us."

Lily and Maya ran up to the terrace, throwing their small arms around Ryan's broad legs, giggling merrily. "Daddy! Look how fast the puppy runs!"
Ryan laughed—a rich, warm sound—and lifted both little girls into his massive lap, pulling Emily close to his side as they watched the golden sun set over the clear waters of the lake.
