Chapter 7 - The lounge confrontation

The velvet curtain swung open. Celeste stepped into the quiet luxury of the elevated booth.
Two bodyguards immediately moved to intercept her, but Alexander raised a single hand. The guards stepped back into the shadows.
"You knew," Celeste said, her voice shaking despite her best efforts to sound commanding. She marched right up to his table. "You knew who I was. You stood there and let me treat you like..."
"Like staff?" Alexander asked mildly, not even turning his head to look at her. He kept his eyes on the stage below. "I wanted to see if twenty years of unearned wealth had given you any grace, Celeste. It seems it only made you loud."
"My father is calling in our legal team," she spat, though her hands were clenched so tight her nails bit into her palms. "You can't freeze our accounts without cause. This is financial coercion!"
Alexander turned his head slowly. The bright spotlight from the gallery caught the side of his face, accentuating his sharp jaw and cold gray eyes.
"Your father forged my mother's signature on the transfer deeds in 2006," Alexander said quietly. "I didn't freeze your accounts to coerce you, Celeste. I froze them because I own them."
Celeste’s eyes widened. "Your mother... Who are you?"
"My name isn't Caldwell," Alexander replied, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Caldwell was my mother's maiden name. My real name is Alexander Voss."
May you like
The name struck Celeste like a physical blow. The Voss family was supposed to be extinct. Destroyed. Bankrupt.
"You're... Arthur Voss's son," she breathed, her confidence completely evaporating.
