Chapter 12

The full trust audit took eight months.

Vivienne’s misuse was serious.

But it was not the only problem.

Dorian’s father had tolerated vague reimbursements for years.

Other relatives used the Family Support Reserve like a convenience account.

A cousin’s home renovation had been partly labeled “medical accessibility” without adequate records.

An uncle charged personal legal expenses.

Dorian’s own security reimbursement error remained in the report.

Celeste’s prenatal travel documentation appeared too.

No one was edited out because the story would be cleaner without them.

That was Dorian’s condition.

The trust recovered money from multiple family members.

Not just Vivienne.

It added two independent trustees.

Every related-party vendor now required beneficial-ownership disclosure.

Legacy signature tokens were destroyed.

Former administrators could not retain read-only access indefinitely.

Medical portals moved out of the general family-office credential system entirely.

The Family Support Reserve survived.

Its culture did not.

Vivienne’s final disputed amount was smaller than Dorian initially expected.

Not every Bellweather expense was fraudulent.

Investigators verified legitimate art transportation and emergency property services.

That mattered.

The final civil finding attributed approximately $2.46 million to unauthorized personal or related-party benefit.

Vivienne was ordered through settlement and judgment to restore substantial funds.

Her art consultancy also faced separate creditor problems once the family money stopped cushioning it.

Dorian did not interfere with those creditors.

If her company survived, it would survive on its own.

If it failed, that would be commercial consequence.

Not revenge.

Celeste watched all of this while approaching the end of pregnancy.

She had one request.

“No trust meetings in the delivery room.”

Dorian almost smiled.

“Agreed.”

“No lawyers outside the door.”

“Probably impossible.”

“Dorian.”

“Fine.”

She looked at him.

“You’re joking more.”

“A little.”

They were still sleeping in the same room.

But the marriage did not return to normal simply because paternity was established.

Celeste had hidden something from him.

For understandable reasons.

For bad reasons.

Both.

They began counseling.

Dorian told the therapist:

“I don’t understand why she didn’t trust me.”

Celeste answered:

“I trusted you to love me.”

Dorian frowned.

“That sounds like trust.”

“I didn’t trust what you would do when you felt betrayed.”

That silenced him.

The therapist asked:

“Was she wrong?”

Dorian thought of Vivienne’s face after the slap.

May you like

“No.”

That answer became the first honest step toward repairing something Vivienne did not create.
