Chapter 10 - the garden of ribbons

Six months later, a brilliant summer sun shone warm and clear over the manicured lawns of the Moretti estate on Lake Shore Drive.
The dark shadows that had hung over the family for six long years were completely gone. The Russo syndicate had been dismantled, Sophia's heart procedure had been a complete success, and peace had finally returned to the mansion.
A grand outdoor celebration was underway on the stone terrace overlooking Lake Michigan. White silk canopies, fresh flowers, and classical music filled the air as Chicago's top community leaders gathered to celebrate Adrian and Elena's wedding.
Elena stood near the stone balustrade wearing a breathtaking white lace bridal gown, her dark hair styled in soft, elegant curls, her fair skin glowing radiantly in the sunlight.
Standing beside her in a custom black tuxedo was Adrian Moretti, looking impossibly handsome, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unshakeable devotion as he held her hand.
Down on the sunny lawn, six-year-old Sophia ran happily in a bright pink floral dress with matching pink bows, her brown hair catching the summer breeze as she played with Titan, who trotted beside her as her forever protector.
Don Carmine raised his glass of champagne toward the terrace. "To Don Adrian and Lady Elena... and to little Sophia, who brought the beast to his knees and restored our family!"
The guests cheered merrily, raising their glasses into the clear blue sky.
Suddenly, Marco walked out onto the stone terrace, carrying a thick black leather envelope stamped with a heavy red wax seal—a crest depicting a silver dragon holding a broken key.
Marco handed the envelope to Adrian, his expression calm but focused. "Boss. A private courier just brought this from the airport in Venice."
Adrian broke the heavy wax seal and pulled out a single sheet of heavy parchment written in fine gold Italian calligraphy.
He read the first two lines, a quiet, subtle smile touching his sharp features as he looked at Elena.
Written on the parchment were only two sentences:
To Don Adrian Moretti: The debt of Chicago is settled, and Sophia is safe. But your late brother Julian's secondary vault in Venice has just been unlocked by a second child's record.
Elena looked at Adrian, her dark eyes sparkling with curiosity and happiness. "Adrian? What is it?"

Adrian slowly folded the black parchment, slipped it into his tuxedo pocket, and wrapped his broad arm around Elena's waist, looking out toward the endless, sparkling blue horizon of the lake.
"It seems our story has one more beautiful chapter to write, my love," Adrian whispered softly into the warm summer breeze, pulling his wife and daughter close as the afternoon sun bathed them in eternal light.
