Chapter 10 - the letter from abroad

Six months later, the afternoon sun cast a breathtaking golden light across the grand terrace of the Whitmore estate.
A grand family celebration was underway. Classical music drifted through the open doors of the conservatory as city leaders, charity directors, and close friends gathered to celebrate Grace's twentieth birthday.
Grace stood near the stone balustrade in a breathtaking cream silk evening gown, her hand resting warmly in Arthur's arm as they watched Caleb and Annie play on the lawn with their puppy.
The butler walked out onto the stone terrace, carrying a heavy black leather envelope stamped with a red wax seal—a crest depicting a golden anchor holding a crest from London.
The butler handed the envelope to Arthur, offering a respectful bow. "Mr. Whitmore. This just arrived via express international courier from a private law firm in London."
Arthur broke the heavy wax seal, pulling out a single sheet of heavy parchment written in fine, sweeping gold calligraphy.
He read the first two lines, his relaxed expression slowly sharpening into an intense, focused gaze.
Grace noticed the sudden shift in his posture and stepped closer to his side. "Grandpa? What is it?"
Arthur slowly read the lines written across the parchment, his deep voice calm but echoing with a subtle edge of dark mystery:
"To Arthur Whitmore: The corporate debt of Chicago is settled, and Eleanor's children are secure. But your late daughter Eleanor's secondary trust in London has just been unlocked by a second family record."
Grace looked at the gold lettering, her brown eyes sparkling with curiosity and sudden wonder. "A second family record? What does that mean, Grandpa?"
Arthur slowly folded the black parchment, slipped it into his suit pocket, and wrapped his broad arm around Grace's waist, looking out across the wide, sparkling expanse of the gardens toward the horizon.

He reached out, taking Caleb and Annie's hands as they ran up to the terrace, a quiet, unshakeable smile touching his distinguished features.
"It means our story has one more beautiful secret to find, my children," Arthur whispered softly into the warm summer breeze, holding his grandchildren close as the afternoon sun bathed them in eternal golden light.
