Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Two weeks later, the dark clouds over Chicago finally cleared, giving way to a crisp, golden autumn morning.

The Marchetti estate was peaceful once again. The treason inside the family had been completely purged, the Moretti syndicate in Detroit had retreated after Vincent seized their local assets, and Frank Caruso had been fully cleared and reinstated as the estate’s trusted transportation manager.

On the grand stone terrace overlooking the manicured gardens, Vincent stood watching the sunrise over Lake Michigan. He wore a simple white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, enjoying the crisp morning air.

Footsteps sounded behind him. Alina walked out onto the terrace carrying a silver tray with fresh coffee. She wore an elegant dark blue dress provided by the estate—no longer a maid's uniform, but the attire of the household's protected guest.

"Good morning, Vincent," Alina said with a warm, gentle smile.

"Good morning, Alina," Vincent replied, taking a cup of coffee from the tray. "How is Mia feeling today?"

Alina pointed down toward the grassy lawn below the terrace.

Mia was running through the autumn leaves, wearing her little brown boots, laughing as she pushed her wooden toy truck along a paved stone path. Frank Caruso was kneeling nearby, patiently building a tiny wooden ramp out of pine blocks for her toy to jump over.

"She’s happier than she’s ever been," Alina said softly, stepping up beside Vincent at the stone railing. "I don't know how to thank you for everything you've done for us, Vincent. You gave us justice for Marco... and a safe home."

Vincent looked down at her, his piercing blue eyes showing a deep, genuine warmth that few people in the world were ever allowed to see.

"You don't owe me anything, Alina," Vincent said gently. "Your daughter saved my life. And your husband was a good man who died protecting the truth. As long as I am standing, you and Mia will always have a home here as family."

Alina looked up at him, a soft blush gracing her rosy cheeks as she smiled. "Family."

Down on the lawn, Mia stopped playing and looked up toward the terrace. She waved her little hand high in the air, shouting up at the towering boss standing beside her mother.

"Look, tall man! The truck goes fast now!" Mia cheered innocently.

Vincent let out a low, genuine laugh, raising his coffee cup in a quiet toast to the small child who had uncovered the greatest secret in Chicago.

The sun broke over the horizon, bathing the estate in bright, golden light. The shadows of treason were gone, but as Vincent looked out over the vast lake, he knew that in a city like Chicago, new storms were always brewing on the distant horizon—and he would be ready for whatever came next.
