Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Heir

Agent Vance’s eyes widened in sudden, absolute terror as his gaze fell upon the silver remote detonator held between Vincent’s fingers.

"Vincent... don't be stupid," Vance stammered, backing up half a step as his tactical team tensed their triggers. "You blow this chamber, you bury all of us!"

"I didn't wire the chamber, Vance," Vincent said smoothly, his voice carrying the calm, absolute authority of a man who had planned this outcome twenty years ago. "I wired the primary support columns of the Federal Task Force building three miles downtown. The moment this remote signal drops... your entire department's digital mainframe vanishes into dust."

Vance’s face drained of all color. He knew Vincent Caruso never made empty threats. The intelligence network built by the Caruso family was vast enough to collapse half the city's infrastructure with a single keystroke.

"What do you want?" Vance growled, his voice trembling with defeated rage.

"I want your team to drop their weapons, step back into the stairwell, and forget you ever heard the name Elena Brooks," Vincent commanded flatly. "You report to your superiors that the vault was empty, destroyed in an accidental gas explosion."

Vance glared at Vincent for three long, grueling seconds, weighing the total destruction of his career against the terrifying authority standing before him. Slowly, reluctantly, Vance lowered his sidearm.

"Lower your weapons," Vance ordered his men, his voice tight with bitter defeat. "We're leaving."

The tactical team backed out of the circular granite chamber, disappearing into the dark brick tunnel as the heavy iron door was secured behind them.

Silence descended over the subterranean vault once again.

Vincent turned around, looking at Elena and Noah. He walked into the center of the archive, reached into the glass display case, and picked up the antique leather-bound ledger. He walked back to Elena, placing the heavy volume into her hands.

"This empire belongs to you now, Elena," Vincent said softly, his dark eyes filled with deep, undeniable respect. "The deeds, the banks, the legitimate properties across three states. You are no longer a cleaning employee hiding in the shadows. You are the head of the Caruso family."

Elena held the heavy ledger against her chest, tears spilling over her rosy cheeks as she looked up at him. "And what about you, Uncle Vincent?"

A faint, rare smile touched Vincent’s rugged, bearded face. "My job was to protect the bloodline until the true heir was ready to take the throne. My work in this city is finished."

He kneeled down in front of three-year-old Noah, gently patting the boy's head. Noah offered his stuffed rabbit toward Vincent one last time. "Thank you, dragon man."

Vincent let out a soft, genuine laugh, taking the rabbit's paw for a gentle handshake. "Stay safe, little boss."

As the first golden rays of dawn began to filter down through the upper ventilation shafts of the subterranean complex, illuminating the dark granite walls, Vincent walked over to the communications desk near the exit.

A high-tech satellite phone sat resting on the console, ringing with a rhythmic, encrypted chime.

Vincent picked up the receiver, putting it to his ear.

A smooth, accented voice spoke through the speaker: "Mr. Caruso. The international syndicate board in London has received news of your victory in New York. They are requesting an immediate summit regarding the European shipping routes."

Vincent looked back at Elena and Noah standing in the golden sunlight of the open vault, his posture returning to that of an undisputed ruler.

"Tell London," Vincent said quietly, his voice sharp as steel, "that the Caruso family is under new management... and we are just getting started."
