Chapter 9 - The Siege of Caruso Tower

Elena stepped up to the glowing blue console, her fingers shaking as she pressed the numerical keys: 4 - 7 - 2 - 9 - 1.
The console chimed with a deep, resonant tone. The blue light instantly shifted to a soft, inviting white, and a secondary glass scanner panel slid out from beneath the numeric pad.
NUMERICAL PASSKEY ACCEPTED. BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION REQUIRED.
Vincent turned to Elena, taking little Noah gently from her arms. He set the toddler on a small raised stone platform in front of the scanner.
"Noah," Vincent said softly, kneeling down until he was at eye level with the three-year-old. "I need you to place your hand on that bright glass panel, buddy. Just like playing a game."
Noah looked at the glowing glass panel, then at his mother, who gave him a reassuring nod through her tears. "It's okay, baby. Put your hand on the light."
Noah reached out his tiny, chubby hand and pressed his palm flat against the cool glass scanner.
A green laser beam swept across his small hand, reading his palm lines and analyzing his capillary blood flow in three seconds.
BIOMETRIC MATCH CONFIRMED: CARUSO BLOODLINE DIRECT HEIR.
A series of heavy, metallic thuds resonated through the chamber walls as six massive steel locking bolts retracted inside the spherical vault door. The colossal steel structure slowly swung open on massive hydraulic hinges, revealing the brightly lit interior of the archive.
Inside sat rows of secure steel filing cabinets, digital storage arrays, and stacks of gold bullion worth tens of millions of dollars. But in the very center of the vault sat a single glass display case holding an antique leather-bound ledger—the original founding charter of the eastern syndicate, containing every legal title, offshore deed, and political compromise established over fifty years.
Before Vincent could step inside, the heavy iron entrance door behind them exploded off its hinges in a cloud of smoke and fire.
A tactical strike force of six men in dark uniform, led personally by Agent Thomas Vance of the Federal Task Force, poured into the circular granite chamber with weapons raised.
"Freeze! Nobody move!" Vance shouted, his face stern and fair, his weapon locked onto Vincent’s chest. "It's over, Caruso! Lower your weapon!"
Vincent did not raise his gun. He stood tall in his dark tailored suit, his black fedora casting a lethal shadow over his face, as he stepped between the federal agents and the open vault door where Elena and Noah stood.
"You're out of your jurisdiction, Agent Vance," Vincent said softly, his deep voice echoing off the granite walls. "This land is held under a federal land grant deed from 1890. You have no authority here."
"I have fifty armed officers on the street above, Vincent!" Vance sneered, taking a step closer. "Hand over the child and the ledger, and I might guarantee you a federal prison cell instead of a grave!"

Vincent let out a slow, quiet laugh—a sound so chilling that even Vance hesitated for a fraction of a second.
"You brought fifty men to my house, Vance," Vincent whispered, pulling a small silver remote detonator from his suit vest. "I brought the entire foundation."
