Chapter 10

The sun rose over Chicago the following morning, breaking through the winter fog and casting a brilliant, golden light across the manicured lawns and grand white columns of the Duca estate.
Inside the magnificent marble entrance hall, the atmosphere was completely transformed.
Sunlight streamed through the soaring arched windows, glinting off the crystal chandeliers and black-and-gold railings of the sweeping double staircase. The dark shadows of fear, treason, and grief that had hung over the estate for four years were completely gone, replaced by an overwhelming sense of peace, warmth, and restored justice.
Sitting on the bottom step of the grand marble staircase was Lorenzo Duca.
He wore a fitted black dress shirt with the top buttons open, tailored black trousers, and his silver wristwatch. The terrifying, emotionally guarded crime lord had completely vanished, replaced by a handsome, happy man whose blue eyes shone with profound contentment.
Sitting beside him on the step was Clara, dressed in an elegant pale-yellow silk blouse and dark trousers, her warm brown hair resting softly over her shoulders, her face glowing with radiant peace.
And playing on the polished marble floor in front of them was three-year-old Sofie.
She wore a fresh pale-yellow floral dress with delicate lace trim, her golden-blonde hair styled half-up with a yellow bow. She was happily pushing a small toy carriage while clutching her cream-colored stuffed rabbit—its belly neatly repaired with fresh lavender ribbon.
"Uncle Lorenzo!" Sofie cheered, spinning around on her small yellow Mary Jane shoes and running across the marble floor toward him.
Lorenzo laughed—a rich, deep, booming sound that filled the grand hall—and dropped down to his knees, opening his broad arms wide.
Sofie threw her tiny body into his chest, wrapping her arms around his neck. Lorenzo scooped her up into his powerful arms, lifting her high into the air as she squealed with pure, radiant delight.
"Did you miss me, little angel?" Lorenzo asked gently, pressing a tender kiss against her rosy cheek before setting her softly on his knee.
"Yes!" Sofie giggled happily, gently touching his stubbled cheek with her tiny hand. "Are you going to stay home today?"
"I am home, Sofie," Lorenzo answered softly, his piercing blue eyes looking up at Clara, who smiled through tears of pure happiness. "I am home forever."
Rocco walked down the grand staircase, wearing his black suit, carrying a set of legal adoption and guardianship documents signed by the state's highest judge, officially establishing Sofie as Lorenzo’s legal niece and co-heir to the Duca estate, while granting Clara full co-guardianship and permanent executive status within the family foundation.
"Everything is signed, Boss," Rocco said softly, a rare, genuine smile breaking across his weathered face. "The Duca legacy is unbroken."
Lorenzo took Clara’s hand in his, pulling her close as Sofie snuggled between them, her small golden head resting against Lorenzo’s chest.

The feared Mafia king who had ruled an empire of shadows had finally found his ultimate purpose—not in power or territory, but in protecting the innocent child who had asked him for a five-minute hug and given him a family forever.
As the warm golden sun illuminated the grand entrance hall, the Duca family stood united, whole, and untouchable, ready to face a bright, limitless horizon together under the golden sky.
