Chapter 1

The morning sun filtered through the frosted floor-to-ceiling windows of the Boston estate, casting a bright, unforgiving light across the sprawling master bathroom. It was a space designed for a king—swaths of imported white marble, gleaming chrome fixtures, and a massive walk-in shower that could comfortably fit half a dozen people. Yet, for Massimo Pascale, it was a pristine, luxurious prison. The thirty-eight-year-old mafia boss sat in the center of the room in a sleek, lightweight black wheelchair, his broad, heavily muscular shoulders tense with a radiating, volcanic hostility. His dark, wet hair clung to his forehead, dripping slightly onto his fair skin. He was shirtless, revealing a sharp jawline darkened by light stubble and a torso covered in intricate, dark ink. The tattoos wrapped around his chest and heavily muscled arms, depicting a history of violence and control that was now mocked by his current reality. A dark charcoal towel was draped securely over his lower body, hiding the legs that had betrayed him following a severe spinal trauma three months ago.

Standing just a few feet behind him was Tessa Fitzgerald. At twenty-seven, she possessed a quiet, striking beauty, with fair, rosy skin and dark hair swept up into a messy, practical bun. She wore a fitted navy caregiver uniform with crisp white piping and a light gray apron tied neatly around her waist. She was a top-tier neurological rehabilitation therapist, brought in because the last three nurses had fled the compound in tears. Tessa was intelligent, stubbornly professional, and completely fearless.

"We are doing this now, Mr. Pascale," Tessa said, her American accent smooth and unyielding. "The schedule is set. Your skin integrity requires immediate attention."

Massimo did not look back at her. He stared at his own reflection in the massive vanity mirror, his eyes burning with a dark, humiliated fury. He was a man who commanded an entire underworld syndicate, a man whose mere whisper could alter the landscape of the city. Now, he required an escort to bathe. The absolute loss of control was eating him alive.

"I said no," Massimo growled, his deep voice echoing sharply off the marble tiles.

Tessa ignored the command. She stepped forward, her white-soled clinical shoes making no sound, and firmly gripped the ergonomic push handles of his sleek black wheelchair. With a smooth, practiced motion, she pulled the chair backward, angling it toward the open glass doors of the shower.

Massimo’s reaction was instantaneous and explosive. He suddenly locked his massive, heavily tattooed hands onto the rubber grip of the wheels. The friction burned, but he forced the chair to a violent, jarring stop. The sudden halt yanked the handles from Tessa’s grip.

"I'M NOT GOING," Massimo roared, twisting his torso to glare at her over his broad shoulder. His sharp features were twisted in pure, unadulterated rage, his chest heaving with aggressive, erratic breaths.

Tessa did not flinch. Her facial expression remained composed, her natural micro-expressions conveying only a mild, clinical annoyance. She stepped forward again, reaching calmly for the wheelchair handles.

"Your hygiene is not up for debate, Massimo," Tessa stated, dropping his formal title, a deliberate tactical move to strip him of his mafia superiority in this medical space.

As her hands brushed the handles, Massimo suddenly twisted his upper body and shoved her hard. His arms, entirely unaffected by the spinal trauma, possessed terrifying strength. The violent push caught Tessa squarely in the chest, sending her stumbling backward. Her shoes slipped on the slick marble, and she fell hard, crashing onto the cold tiled floor.

"GET OUT," Massimo shouted, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he glared down at her. "DON’T TOUCH ME."
