Chapter 1

The morning sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Moretti mansion, bathing the luxurious breakfast room in a bright, unforgiving light. The space was a masterpiece of classic architecture, boasting cream-colored walls, imported marble flooring covered by a plush Persian rug, and antique mahogany furniture. Yet, the warmth of the room starkly contrasted with the chilling cruelty unfolding near the grand dining table. At the center of the Persian rug sat a stainless-steel dog bowl, its metallic surface gleaming under the chandelier.
Four-year-old Lucy Moretti knelt on the carpet, her small frame trembling violently. She wore a beautifully knitted cream cardigan over a pale floral dress, her soft light-brown hair tied neatly into two small pigtails. Her large blue eyes, brimming with unshed tears, looked up in pure, innocent confusion. Her fair, rosy skin was flushed with a mixture of fear and profound humiliation.
Looming over the frightened child was Bianca Sterling, Vittorio Moretti’s elegant fiancée. Bianca was a vision of refined wealth, her carefully styled blonde hair framing a face with delicate, aristocratic features. She wore an expensive champagne-colored silk blouse that shimmered slightly as she moved, paired with matching tailored trousers and designer heels. But behind her polished exterior hid a venomous, controlling personality.
"Lower," Bianca commanded, her voice like cracking ice. She placed a manicured hand on the back of Lucy’s small head, pushing the child closer to the metal bowl on the floor.
"Please, Bianca," Lucy whimpered, her tiny voice breaking as a tear finally slipped down her rosy cheek. "I don't want to eat from there."
Standing a few feet away, leaning casually against the edge of a mahogany sideboard, was Marcus Hale. He was a tall, sturdy man of forty, wearing a charcoal tailored suit, a crisp white shirt, and a dark tie. He crossed his arms over his broad chest, a smug, arrogant smile playing on his lips as he watched the scene.
"She needs to learn her place in this house, Bianca," Marcus chuckled, his American accent thick with condescension. "If she acts like a disobedient little mutt, she eats like one."
"Exactly, Marcus," Bianca agreed smoothly, her grip tightening slightly on the child’s hair. "Now, eat the cereal, Lucy. I won't tell you again."
Lucy looked up, her blue eyes wide with desperate pleading. "Daddy… but I’m a human being."
Marcus threw his head back and laughed aloud. "Your Daddy isn't here, kid. He's busy running an empire. He doesn't have time to coddle a brat."
Hidden in the shadows of the adjacent hallway, standing just out of sight near the slightly ajar double doors, was Emma Clark. The twenty-eight-year-old housekeeper held her breath, her slim build pressed tightly against the wall. She wore a modest beige uniform with delicate lace-trimmed sleeves, her dark-brown hair pinned into a practical bun. Emma’s delicate features were pale with anxiety, but her eyes blazed with a fierce, unwavering determination.
Her hands trembled as she held her smartphone up, the camera lens perfectly angled through the crack in the door. She was recording every second, every cruel word, every tear that fell from Lucy’s eyes.

"Just a little longer," Emma whispered to herself, her voice barely a breath. "I have to get it all. I have to show him."
She swallowed hard, her heart pounding furiously against her ribs as Marcus pushed off the mahogany sideboard and began walking toward the heavy breakfast-room doors, threatening to close them completely and shut Emma out.
