Chapter 3

For three agonizing seconds, the breakfast room was trapped in a suffocating silence. Bianca’s confident posture shattered instantly, the color draining from her refined face. Marcus froze mid-reach, his smug expression replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated panic.
Before either of them could formulate an excuse, Emma Clark burst through the doorway, slipping past Vittorio’s towering frame. Her breathing was ragged, her beige housekeeper uniform slightly wrinkled from hiding, but her eyes were fixed solely on the Mafia boss.
"Mr. Moretti!" Emma gasped, her voice shaking but her resolve absolute. She rushed directly to him, holding her smartphone up with both hands. "You need to see this. Right now. You need to see what they were doing to her."
Vittorio’s intense gray eyes shifted from the dog bowl to the glowing screen of Emma's phone.
"Vittorio, darling!" Bianca suddenly shrieked, her voice pitching an octave higher as she took a frantic step forward. "It isn't what it looks like! We were just playing a game with her! She knocked over her cereal, and Marcus was—"
"Quiet," Vittorio’s voice was barely above a whisper, yet it possessed a lethal resonance that instantly silenced the room.
He looked down at the phone in Emma’s trembling hands. On the screen, the digital playback showed Bianca’s hand aggressively pushing Lucy’s head toward the metal bowl, followed by Marcus’s cruel laughter and his statement about locking the child in the basement.
As the video played, the subtle tattoos on Vittorio’s chest seemed to shift as his breathing slowed. His face, normally a mask of calm, controlled authority, went completely cold. It was a terrifying transformation—the civilized businessman dissolving to reveal the ruthless underworld kingpin beneath.
"Daddy!" Lucy cried out, scrambling away from the bowl.
Vittorio didn't look at Bianca or Marcus. He bypassed them entirely, his long strides covering the distance in seconds. He knelt on the Persian rug and gently wrapped his strong, muscular arms around his daughter. He lifted Lucy effortlessly, holding her securely against his broad chest.
Lucy buried her tear-stained face into his neck, her tiny hands gripping his white dress shirt like a lifeline. Vittorio closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, pressing a gentle kiss to her soft, light-brown hair.
He turned and walked back toward the doorway, gently placing Lucy down right beside Emma.
"Emma," Vittorio said, his tone shockingly gentle as he looked at the housekeeper. "Hold her hands. Do not let her look back."
"I've got her, sir," Emma whispered, immediately dropping to her knees and pulling Lucy into a warm, protective embrace, shielding the little girl's eyes against her lace-trimmed shoulder.
Vittorio slowly turned around to face the center of the room. His intense gray eyes locked onto Marcus, and then shifted to Bianca. The absolute stillness of his body was infinitely more intimidating than any shouting or screaming could ever be.

"Vittorio, you have to understand," Marcus stammered, holding his hands up defensively. "She was acting out. We were trying to teach her respect."
Vittorio took one slow step forward. "Stay away from my daughter."
