Chapter 14 - season 1 reveal

A tall woman stepped through the grand doorway, her wet black trench coat dripping onto the polished marble floor.

She wore a wide-brimmed black hat and dark sunglasses, despite the late hour. She walked with supreme elegance, her heels clicking softly against the stone as two massive European bodyguards in dark suits followed two paces behind her.

Victor stood at the top of the three living room steps, shielding Ellie and Mia behind his broad frame. His weapon remained resting in his right hand.

"Stop right there," Victor commanded, his voice echoing through the silent mansion.

The woman stopped in the center of the foyer. She slowly raised her hands, reached up, and removed her hat and sunglasses.

Victor’s breath caught in his throat.

It was Clara.

Her face was unaged, her bright blue eyes cold and sharp, her dark hair styled impeccably. She looked at Victor with a faint, elegant smile that carried no warmth.

"Hello, Victor," Clara said, her voice smooth as silk. "You kept our house quite clean."

"You abandoned your children," Victor said, his voice dropping to a dangerous register. "You staged your death. You let Celeste abuse Ellie."

"I allowed Celeste to test you," Clara corrected softly, taking one elegant step forward. "And you proved what I always knew—you are a protective father. But you are a terrible Don."

"The syndicate is mine, Clara," Victor said, aiming his weapon directly at her heart. "Sal is in federal custody. Julian is ruined. You have nothing here."

Clara let out a soft, musical laugh that chilled the room.

"I don't want your New York syndicate, Victor," Clara said, reaching into her coat pocket.

Marco and four guards immediately raised their rifles. "Don't move!"

Clara pulled out a simple black leather folder and tossed it onto the marble step at Victor’s feet.

"Read it," Clara said softly.

Victor kept his weapon trained on her as Marco picked up the folder, opened it, and held it out for Victor to see.

Inside was a legal deed of transfer signed by the New York Family Commission four hours ago. Under the terms of the charter, because Victor had used federal law enforcement to arrest Sal and Julian, his title as Don had been formally challenged by the Commission.

And the Commission had appointed a new supreme overseer for all five families.

The deed was signed: DONNA CLARA MORETTI.
