Chapter 10 - the threshold of sixteen

Six months later, the sun shone down brilliantly over the gardens of the Romano estate.

The estate was decorated with thousands of white roses and golden banners for a grand celebration. Regional leaders, family allies, and close friends gathered on the lush lawn, cheering as Alessandro Romano, dressed in an immaculate white suit, stood beside Catherine Winters, who looked breathtaking in a flowing champagne silk gown.

Beside them stood three-year-old Logan in a mini navy suit with a tiny gold bow tie, happily holding Captain Bear in one hand and Alessandro’s broad finger in the other.

Later that evening, as the warm golden sunset painted the sky over the Chesapeake Bay, Alessandro led Catherine and Logan down into the mansion's historical subterranean vault wing.

They stood before a massive, ancient steel vault door embedded deep in the stone foundation, featuring sixteen gold combination dials.

"This vault was built by my grandfather sixty years ago," Alessandro explained, holding Logan on his hip while wrapping his other arm around Catherine's waist. "It holds the founding charters, land deeds, and primary trust funds of the entire Romano enterprise."

Catherine looked at the silver signet ring resting on a leather chain around her neck—a ring David had sent her in his final parcel. Engraved inside were sixteen numbers: 03-09-12-18...

"The combination," Catherine said softly.

Alessandro carefully turned the sixteen gold dials one by one, their heavy metallic clicks echoing through the stone corridor.

CLICK! CLANG! PNEUMATIC HISS!

The multi-ton steel vault door slowly unsealed, swinging open to reveal a breathtaking marble chamber filled with historical treasures, gold bullion, and three massive iron chests stamped with the family seal.

In the center of the room stood a single marble pedestal holding an official leather-bound decree.

Alessandro picked up the decree, reading the opening lines under the soft gallery lighting. A warm, breathtaking smile spread across his rugged face.

"What does it say, Alessandro?" Catherine asked, leaning against his chest.

Alessandro looked down at three-year-old Logan, who was happily pointing at a sparkling silver crown inside a glass display case.

"This charter states that upon reaching his sixteenth birthday, Logan will automatically inherit full legal ownership of the Romano trust," Alessandro revealed, his dark eyes shining with intense pride and love. "Making our son the sole heir to the entire Baltimore empire."

Catherine gasped in delight, laughing as Alessandro lifted little Logan high into the air, the toddler giggling as he held Captain Bear above his head.

Alessandro pulled Catherine close, pressing a deep, tender kiss against her lips as the clear night sky settled over the water... leaving the grand, thrilling future of the Romano bloodline wide open for generations to come...
