Chapter 10 - the threshold of sixteen

Rico opened the leather file, holding up a certified bank document stamped by federal investigators.

"For five years," Rico declared, his voice cutting through the silent ballroom like a thunderclap, "Bianca Moretti embezzled twelve million dollars from my son's trust fund. And six months ago, when Elena discovered the theft... Bianca paid an mechanic fifty thousand dollars to cut the brake lines on Elena’s car."

Shouts of horror rippled through the syndicate elders.

Bianca backed away in sheer panic, her heels slipping on the polished marble. "Lies! He's lying to protect this gold-digger!"

She reached frantically into her red silk purse, pulling out a small silver sidearm, aiming it directly at Clara and Leo.

BANG!

Before Bianca could pull the trigger, Dante moved with terrifying speed, disarming her with a single heavy strike of his arm. The gun clattered across the floor as two armed guards pinned Bianca to the marble floor.

"Take her to the federal authorities," Rico commanded coldly. "She will spend the rest of her life in a federal prison."

Bianca was dragged out of the ballroom, screaming in rage, her red dress torn as the heavy oak doors slammed shut behind her.

The room erupted into applause as the syndicate elders bowed their heads in respect to Rico and his family.

Little Leo tugged gently on Clara’s emerald dress, looking up with big, bright brown eyes. "Pink lady... are you staying forever now?"

Clara knelt down, kissing the little boy's rosy cheek warmly. "I'm never leaving you, Leo. I promise."

Rico stepped forward, reaching down to take Clara’s soft hand in his broad, warm palm, a rare, breathtaking smile appearing on his rugged face.

Thirteen years later, a radiant golden sunset painted the sky over the Moretti compound.

The grand gardens were decorated for an extraordinary celebration—Leo Moretti’s sixteenth birthday and his formal presentation as the primary heir to the family enterprise.

High-society leaders and family friends gathered on the marble terrace, raising their glasses to the handsome, tall sixteen-year-old young man standing beside his father.

Leo wore a sharp navy suit, his blond hair neatly styled, his eyes full of strength and intelligence. Beside him sat an elderly but proud Dante, while Clara—now thirty-seven and looking more beautiful than ever—stood proudly with her arm wrapped around Rico’s waist.

After the toasts concluded, Rico led Leo down into the subterranean vault wing beneath the mansion.

They stood before a massive steel vault door featuring sixteen gold combination dials.

"This vault holds your mother's legacy, Leo," Rico explained, his deep voice filled with fatherly pride. "It holds the founding charters and private trust funds of your family."

Rico pulled the silver locket from his pocket—the one Clara had given to Leo on his birthday—and handed it to his son.

"Together," Rico said softly, "we unlock your sixteenth year."

Leo inserted the silver locket into the central mechanism and turned the sixteen gold dials side by side.

CLICK! CLANG! PNEUMATIC HISS!

The massive steel vault door slowly unsealed, swinging open to reveal a magnificent marble chamber filled with family heirlooms, historic treasures, and three massive iron chests.

In the center of the room stood a marble pedestal holding a single leather scroll tied with a red silk ribbon.

Leo stepped forward and lifted the scroll, unsealing the ribbon to read the golden calligraphy on the cover: To my son on his sixteenth birthday — The Unspoken Vow.

As Leo opened the scroll, a small, unread letter dropped from the parchment onto the floor, bearing an unknown wax seal from a private bank in Zurich... leaving the great, thrilling story of the Moretti bloodline ready for its next extraordinary chapter...
