Chapter 8

Victor made the irreversible decision before the week ended.
He petitioned the probate court to suspend all trust transfers connected to the marital consolidation plan and appoint an independent fiduciary to review the Bellacosta Heritage Trust.
His own lawyer warned him.
“This opens the books.”
“I know.”
“All of them.”
“I know.”
“Your father’s cooperation file may intersect with assets still inside the trust.”
Victor looked toward Beatrice, who sat across the room with her cane and bruised cheek.
“Then the books were never closed.”
Second, he filed to block Seraphina from any spousal access to trust information beyond what marriage law required, pending review of fraud, coercion, and her role in the wedding incident.
Third, he allowed Detective Kane to collect full ballroom footage, guest lists, security logs, and communications from the wedding planning office.
Fourth, he authorized Beatrice’s lawyer to provide the Enzo file to federal authorities.
Fifth, he began separate discussions with federal prosecutors about the criminal Bellacosta operations still under his control.
His attorney said:
“You may go to prison.”
Victor answered:
“My father did not vanish so I could spend my life proving the wrong men right.”
It was not redemption.
Not yet.
It was a door opening.
And doors, Beatrice had told him long ago, could lead to rooms children should not enter.
May you like
Victor was no longer a child.
He entered.
