Chapter 9 - the final confession

The storm outside began to clear, leaving a quiet, fresh drizzle pattering against the windows.

The drawing room was cleared of mercenaries, leaving only Lorenzo, Evelyn, Bianca, and Dr. Hayes standing in the dim light of the crystal chandelier.

Bianca sat slumped on the marble stairs, her champagne gown ruined, her diamond earrings discarded on the floor beside her. All her arrogance, power, and prestige had vanished into dust.

Lorenzo stood before her, looking down with deep, quiet sorrow. "Why, Bianca? You were my sister. I trusted you with half of the family business."

Bianca looked up, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. "Because our father chose you!" she sobbed, her voice filled with decades of built-up jealousy. "I was older! I was smarter! I ran the logistics for ten years! But because you were the son... he handed you the crown! I wanted what was mine!"

Evelyn walked slowly down the stairs, supported gently by Anna. She stopped in front of Bianca, her dark eyes filled with deep pity rather than hatred.

"You traded your brother's happiness and my life for a title, Bianca," Evelyn said softly. "And in the end... you lost everything."

Lorenzo looked at his security chief, Marcus, who stood near the doorway. "Take Bianca to our family estate in Sicily. She will live under total guard for the rest of her life. She will never step foot in Rome again."

Bianca didn't fight or scream as the guards helped her up and led her out into the waiting car. She knew she had received a mercy she didn't deserve.

Lorenzo turned toward Evelyn, stepping forward and wrapping his broad arms around her waist, lifting her gently into his embrace. Evelyn wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, burying her face into his shoulder as she finally cried tears of pure joy and safety.

"It's over, my love," Lorenzo whispered into her dark hair. "You're safe now. You're home."
