Chapter 8 - The Guarded Truth

"Where is he?!" Lorenzo roared, dropping to his knees beside Elena, checking her for serious injuries.
"It was... it was two men in dark gear," Elena gasped, her hands shaking as she pointed toward the shattered balcony. "They came through the fire escape... one of them grabbed the baby while the other hit me! Sophia tried to stop them, but—"
Lorenzo stood up, his posture radiating pure, unadulterated fury. He walked over to Sophia, dropping down to eye level with the frightened eight-year-old child.
"Sophia," Lorenzo said, keeping his voice as calm and steady as possible despite the rage burning inside him. "Did you see where they went?"
Sophia nodded quickly, her small hands pointing toward the south woods bordering the estate. "They ran toward the old carriage house. The man holding the baby... he had a silver watch with a red light on it. Just like Mr. Matteo's."
Lorenzo’s eyes burned with lethal purpose. He reached into his coat and handed his personal emergency transmitter to Marco, who had just rushed into the room with four armed guards.
"Lock down every exit," Lorenzo ordered Marco. "If anyone tries to clear the south gate, blow the tires. I am going to the carriage house myself."
"Boss, let us clear it first—" Marco began.
"No," Lorenzo interrupted, his voice laced with absolute authority. "Matteo is my brother. This ends between us."
Lorenzo sprinted down the service stairs, slipping through the rain-soaked gardens toward the old stone carriage house hidden deep within the pine trees at the edge of the property line.

The heavy wooden doors of the carriage house stood slightly ajar, a soft golden light flickering from within the dark structure.
Lorenzo pushed the door open silently, his weapon raised, his polished shoes stepping onto the damp concrete floor.
