Chapter 5 - The Interrogation in the East Wing

Within thirty minutes, the rival dons had been safely escorted off the grounds under heavy guard, confused and furious, while the entire Moretti estate went into absolute lockdown.

In the secluded holding facility beneath the east wing, Vivian sat on a cold metal chair. Her champagne dress was wrinkled, her diamond earrings catching the harsh light of the overhead lamp. Marco Salazar stood by the door, his arms crossed over his broad chest, his earpiece quiet.

Damiano entered the room, throwing the black remote onto the metal table between them.

"I was framed, Damiano!" Vivian wept, her eyes red as she looked up at him. "Someone put that in my bag while I was in the powder room! I swear on my life, I would never betray you!"

Damiano leaned over the table, placing both hands flat on the steel surface, bringing his intimidating presence inches from her face.

"The device was encoded to your personal biometric frequency, Vivian," Damiano said, his voice quiet and deadly. "You weren't just trying to kill me. You were going to wipe out all five dons in one room, start a city-wide war, and inherit the syndicate assets through your father's council."

Vivian stopped weeping instantly. Her helpless expression vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating glare.

"You think you're untouchable, Damiano," Vivian hissed. "You think a maid's brat saved your life today? You have no idea how deep this goes. You have enemies inside your own bloodline."

Damiano stood up slowly, stepping back toward the heavy steel door. "Keep her locked in here until I find out who gave her the detonator."
