Chapter 3 - The Weight of Silence

Dr. Cole gasped, trying to pull back, but Gabriel’s grip was absolute. Despite the fever burning through his veins, the mob boss possessed strength that was terrifying.

"Gabriel..." Dr. Cole stammered, his confident posture fracturing. "This is absurd. She is a maid. She cleans floors!"

Gabriel ignored the doctor entirely. His intense, dark eyes remained locked on Elena, studying her pale, rosy cheeks, her calm posture, and the unyielding truth in her dark brown eyes. He had survived twenty years at the apex of organized crime because he knew how to read human nature. Elena was not seeking attention; she was terrified, yet her conviction was absolute.

"Explain," Gabriel commanded softly. His voice was a low, gravelly baritone that filled the room.

Elena took a single, measured step forward, ensuring her disposable gloves remained clean. "My mother worked thirty years in the Queens textile district," she said clearly. "I grew up around every grade of fiber produced in North America. Standard medical sutures are designed to minimize tissue friction and allow bodily fluids to drain naturally."

She pointed a gloved finger toward the edge of the exposed shoulder.

"That material is high-density industrial polyester blended with synthetic nylon. It is used for heavy upholstery and military-grade tarps. It does not yield, it does not absorb, and when wrapped tightly around living tissue, it chokes the micro-vessels and traps heat, causing severe internal inflammation."

Dr. Cole’s face flushed red with anger. "This is preposterous! I am a board-certified trauma surgeon! I used medical-grade braided suture material from a sealed, sterile pack!"

Gabriel slowly turned his gaze from Elena to the doctor. The temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees.

"Carmine," Gabriel murmured.

"Yeah, Boss?" Carmine stepped forward, his massive frame looming behind the doctor like an impending storm.

"Bring the sterile tray," Gabriel ordered coldly.
