Chapter 14

The legal matters resolved over the next two years.

Ramona pleaded to a combination of child-related assault conduct and financial or obstruction-related offenses supported by the evidence.

Not every ugly text became a crime.

Not every excessive management fee became theft.

The final case focused on deliberate physical interference with Nell, planned evidentiary manipulation, false or misleading financial certifications, and proven misuse of Dulcie’s earnings.

Ramona received a custodial component followed by supervised release.

Restitution.

Financial penalties.

Restrictions on managing a minor’s earnings or serving as fiduciary for child assets.

She could still work after release.

Just not control Dulcie’s money.

RH House eventually closed.

Its remaining clients moved elsewhere.

Ramona later worked for another communications firm without family-account authority.

Ainsley’s diversion closed successfully.

No conviction.

Her kick did not disappear from history.

It simply received the consequence the law provided.

Benedict’s custody arrangement eventually became less restrictive.

Ramona progressed from supervised visits to unsupervised daytime time after therapy and compliance.

No automatic return to equal custody.

The court reviewed actual progress.

Dulcie’s school attendance stabilized.

Her grades improved.

She chose to continue limited modeling.

Four campaigns in one year.

Not twenty-two.

Her earnings went directly through independent accounting.

Sometimes she said no.

Nothing collapsed when she did.

Nell’s hair grew.

By eleven, it reached below her shoulder blades again.

She chose to cut it herself.

Not because of Ramona.

Because she wanted layers.

Ainsley sat beside her at the salon.

“You sure?”

Nell rolled her eyes.

“Mom.”

“Just checking.”

“You’ve asked four times.”

“Three.”

“Four.”

The stylist laughed.

Nell smiled at her reflection.

This haircut belonged to her.

That distinction mattered more than length.

Benedict and Ainsley remained married.

The crisis had not magically strengthened them.

They spent a year in couples counseling because Benedict had initially underestimated how much family conflict he expected Ainsley to absorb quietly.

Ainsley learned that protecting Nell did not require living permanently ready for battle.

Benedict learned that calm authority was useless if it arrived only after damage.

May you like

They stayed together because the work made sense.

Not because suffering deserved a romantic reward.
