Chapter 8

Dominic made the decision that split the Falcone family permanently.
He stepped down as acting head of all legitimate Falcone businesses pending independent review.
Not the criminal organization.
The legal companies.
Restaurants.
Real estate.
Trust assets.
Security firms.
Warehouses.
His lawyers called it strategic.
His cousins called it surrender.
Dominic called it necessary.
He petitioned the probate court to appoint an independent fiduciary to control legacy assets while Agnes recovered and while Clarice’s conduct was investigated.
This meant Dominic would not control the businesses either.
The judge asked:
“Mr. Falcone, are you requesting removal of your own authority?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because everyone at that table has a conflict.”
“Including you?”
“Especially me.”
Second, he ordered all Falcone employees not to contact Agnes, Clarice, Bellwether, the physician, or warehouse staff except through counsel.
Third, he accepted a misdemeanor assault resolution for slapping Clarice.
Diversion.
Anger-management sessions.
Community service through a program with no Falcone donations.
No witness contact.
His men laughed behind his back.
Dominic fired two of them when he heard.
Fourth, he did not retaliate against Clarice.
No threats.
No accidents.
No quiet message.
When one cousin said, “Let us solve it the old way,” Dominic answered:
“The old way is why my mother is in a hospital bed with prosecutors on speed dial.”
Finally, Dominic met with federal prosecutors through his own lawyers.
Not to confess everything.
Not yet.
But to begin negotiating a global resolution for the legitimate businesses and to understand his exposure.
His attorney said:
“This may send you to prison.”
Dominic looked at Agnes through the hospital window.
May you like
“She already decided truth was worth that.”
There was no undoing that choice.
