Chapter 4 - The King in Plain Clothes

The entire ballroom fell into a terrifying, breathless silence. The music stopped. The chatter died instantly. Hundreds of guests turned in absolute horror toward the shattered banquet table.
"Security!" Victoria screamed, scrambling up onto her hands and knees in the middle of crushed pastries and broken glass. Her face was bright red, her diamond bracelet dangling wildly from her wrist. "Where is security?! Call the police! Throw him out!"
From the grand archway leading to the executive offices, a distinguished, fifty-six-year-old man hurried into the ballroom. He wore a flawless black tuxedo with a gold lapel pin, his short silver hair neatly styled and his expression grave. It was Arthur Sterling, the General Director of the hotel. Behind him ran four imposing security guards in dark suits.
Victoria’s eyes lit up with malicious triumph as she saw the director. She pushed herself up, pointing frantically at Ethan, who remained standing in the exact same spot, completely unbothered.
"Director Sterling!" Victoria shouted angrily, her voice shaking with rage. "Throw this nobody out immediately! Look what he did to me! He ruined my dress and destroyed your table!"
Director Sterling sprinted across the floor, his eyes sweeping over the broken glass and the ruined banquet setup. But he didn't even glance at Victoria.
He stopped two feet in front of Ethan.
Sterling immediately pulled his hands together in front of his waist, lowered his head, and bowed deeply at a ninety-degree angle.
