Chapter 1 - The Gilded Cage of the Moretti Empire

The grand ballroom of the Moretti mansion was a masterpiece of architectural brilliance, bathed in the bright, cinematic glow of towering crystal chandeliers. Every facet of the room was designed to project absolute, untouchable power. The imported Italian marble floors gleamed beneath the polished shoes of the city’s most influential elite, reflecting the warm, vibrant colors of the extravagant decorations. It was the eighth birthday of Ethan Moretti, and the celebration was nothing short of a royal coronation.

At the head of the massive, meticulously decorated dining table sat Dominic Moretti. He was a man whose very name commanded fear and respect across the Eastern Seaboard, yet tonight, he sat in the posture of a devoted father. Dominic was a towering figure, muscular and ruggedly handsome. His thick dark hair was swept back immaculately, and a light, perfectly trimmed stubble lined his strong, masculine jaw. He wore an elegant, custom-tailored white suit with an open-collar white dress shirt, the crisp fabric hinting at the dark, intricate tattoos that spanned his chest and arms. He was frighteningly calm, possessing an intense commanding presence that made the air around him feel heavy.

"Ethan, my son," Dominic said, his deep American accent carrying effortlessly over the soft classical music playing in the background. "Today, you turn eight. You are growing into a fine, gentle young man. I could not be prouder."

"Thank you, Father," Ethan replied, his voice soft and well-mannered. The young boy looked dashing in his elegant navy suit, a crisp white shirt, and highly polished black shoes. His fair, rosy skin glowed with genuine happiness as he looked down the long table at the smiling guests.

Watching from the perimeter of the ballroom, standing near the grand arched entrance to the service corridors, was Elena. As Dominic’s longtime head housekeeper, she was a beautiful, hardworking woman who kept the massive estate running flawlessly. Her soft brown hair was tied back in a neat bun, and she wore a pristine pale-blue maid uniform covered by a crisp white apron. Her eyes, however, were not on the Mafia Boss or his wealthy guests. They were fixed entirely on her three-year-old daughter, Lily.

"Stay close to the wall, Lily," Elena whispered, reaching down to adjust the bright yellow party dress her daughter wore. "This is a very important day for Ethan. We must be perfect."

"I am perfect, Mama," Lily whispered back, looking down at her tiny pink shoes. The toddler was tiny, but her bright, observant eyes missed nothing. She had a crown of curly brown hair and an unusually fearless demeanor.

"I know you are, sweetie," Elena smiled softly, her fair complexion flushing with maternal pride. "Just keep your voice down."

At the center of the room, a pair of white-gloved servers rolled out a massive, multi-tiered birthday cake. It was a culinary masterpiece, covered in pristine white vanilla frosting and adorned with intricate sugar sculptures. The guests applauded politely as the cake was positioned directly in front of Ethan.

"Would you like the first piece, Ethan?" asked Marco, the head server, holding a silver cake knife.

"Yes, please," Ethan smiled gently. "The piece with the blue sugar dragon on it, if that's alright."

May you like

"Of course, young sir," Marco replied, expertly slicing the heavy cake and transferring the generous piece onto a delicate china plate. He placed the plate on the mahogany table right in front of the birthday boy.

Dominic leaned back in his chair, adjusting the luxury wristwatch on his left arm, his pale eyes watching his son’s joy. For a brief, fleeting moment, the Moretti mansion felt like a normal home. It was a brilliant, cinematic illusion of peace, bathed in warm light and the innocent laughter of an eight-year-old boy preparing to enjoy his birthday.
