Chapter 10 - major reveal

The subterranean council chamber beneath Saint Patrick's Cathedral was silent and dark, illuminated only by candlelight and the soft glow of a central projection screen.

The bosses of New York's five crime families sat around a massive oval oak table. At the head of the table sat Don Victor Moretti, wearing a tailored navy suit, holding a stack of gold-stamped legal documents.

The heavy double iron doors of the chamber burst open.

Dominic Bellacorte walked into the room, flanked by four heavily armed guards. Behind him walked Leo, his hands bound in steel restraints.

Victor Moretti looked up, a cruel, victorious smile spreading across his face. "You're late, Bellacorte. The Commission has already reviewed the asset transfer documents for the New York docks."

"The documents are fraudulent, Moretti," Dominic said, his deep voice echoing off the ancient stone walls as he walked to the foot of the table.

"They carry the official seal of your consigliere, Marcus Vale," Moretti sneered, tapping the paper with his thick gold ring. "Under Commission charter, a consigliere’s signature is legally binding if the Don is incapacitated or facing internal revolt."

Dominic reached into his inner tuxedo jacket and pulled out the leather journal he had recovered from his father's safe in Chapter 6. He threw the heavy journal onto the center of the oak table.

"Marcus Vale had no authority to sign those papers," Dominic declared, his voice ringing with absolute authority. "Because Marcus Vale was never a legitimate member of the Bellacorte syndicate."

The five family bosses leaned forward, murmuring among themselves.

"Explain yourself, Bellacorte," the senior boss from Brooklyn demanded.

"Thirty years ago," Dominic revealed, pointing at the journal, "my father discovered that Marcus Vale and his sister Vivienne were secret operatives planted by the Chicago syndicate to infiltrate New York. My father stripped Marcus of his family rights in a sealed charter amendment dated October 14, 1996."

Dominic turned and looked straight at Leo.

"And thirty years ago," Dominic continued, his voice heavy with solemn weight, "my father adopted Leo to protect him from the Vale family, knowing Leo was the biological son of Vivienne Vale and Don Victor Moretti."

The entire council chamber erupted into absolute shock.

Leo froze, his eyes widening in complete, terrifying disbelief as he stared at Dominic. "What... what did you say?"

"You're not a Bellacorte, Leo," Dominic said softly, looking his brother in the eye. "And you're not a Vale. You are Victor Moretti's biological son—the son Moretti abandoned thirty years ago to secure his alliance with Chicago."

This was the first major reveal of Season 1: the medium-term mystery of Leo's true origin and why Moretti, Vivienne, and Marcus had manipulated him was completely exposed.

Moretti’s victorious smile vanished instantly, his face turning pale as the other four family bosses turned to glare at him with dark, deadly suspicion.

"This is a lie!" Moretti roared, slamming his hands onto the table, standing up. "He's making this up to save his docks!"

Before Moretti could speak further, Dominic’s encrypted cell phone rang loudly in the quiet chamber.

Dominic pulled out the phone and pressed speaker.

A deep, gravelly voice came through the speaker—a voice that made every senior boss at the table stand up in pure terror.

It was the voice of Carmine Bellacorte—Dominic's father, who had been buried thirty years ago:

"You did well, Dominic. The traitors are exposed. Now bring my charter back to Westchester."
