Chapter 2 - My brothers came through the door

The front doors opened so hard they struck the wall stops.

Caleb entered first.

Forty-one.

CEO of Prescott Industrial.

Mason behind him.

Thirty-nine.

CEO of Prescott Logistics.

Then Grant.

Thirty-six.

CEO of Prescott Development.

People sometimes called them:

“The Prescott brothers.”

I called them:

Annoying.

Overprotective.

Loud.

Family.

Caleb saw me.

His expression vanished.

Not rage immediately.

Nothing.

That was worse.

Ryan turned.

Melissa stepped backward.

Caleb said:

“Put the stick down, you piece of trash.”

Ryan replied:

“This is between me and my wife.”

I shouted:

“Caleb, don’t—”

Ryan lifted the cane again.

Caleb moved.

One kick into Ryan’s upper body.

Not his head.

Not repeated.

Ryan went backward.

The cane clattered once but he grabbed it again as he rose.

Mason and Grant came around Caleb.

Nobody touched Ryan a second time.

The immediate threat had moved away from me.

That distinction would matter later.
