Chapter 4 - The Denver house

People called it a mansion.
I called it Dad’s house.
Stone exterior.
Tall windows.
Long driveway.
Too much space.
After Dad died, the property passed to a family real-estate trust.
Under his estate plan, I had the right to occupy it for five years if I wanted.
I did.
Ryan moved in with me.
He did not own it.
Neither did my brothers personally.
The trust did.
That irritated Ryan more than he admitted.
He would say:
“We live in a twenty-million-dollar house and can’t move one wall without trustee approval.”
I would answer:
“We also don’t pay twenty million dollars for it.”
He hated that joke.
Dad’s private study remained locked after his death.
I had the keys.

Nobody else.
At least, that was what I believed.
