Chapter 15 - payoff + open ending

Dominic sat by Maisie's bed until she fell into a peaceful, deep sleep. The nightmare that had plagued the Bellaro estate for months was finally over.
Dominic had reclaimed absolute control of his crime syndicate. Vivienne had been humiliated and exiled. Sophia was ruined and behind bars. Victor Moretti was dead. His daughter was safe, cherished, and officially recognized by every crime family in America as the sole, undisputed heir to the Bellaro dynasty.
Emotional justice had been delivered in full.
Dominic carried the small silver music box into his private study. He set it down on his heavy mahogany desk under the warm glow of the desk lamp.
He reached into his vest pocket, pulled out his mother’s antique silver key, and inserted it into the small keyhole on the side of the music box.
He turned the key.
The box chimed a soft, haunting melody. The velvet lining inside lifted up, revealing a hidden false bottom.
Dominic reached inside and pulled out a fresh, uncreased color photograph, along with a handwritten letter.
He brought the photograph under the lamp light.
Dominic’s breath hitched in his throat.
The photograph had been taken in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The digital timestamp in the bottom corner read: October 2, 2026—just five days ago.
Standing in the center of the photo was Elena Bellaro. She was alive, vibrant, and smiling gently.
In her arms, she was holding a six-month-old baby boy with dark hair and striking blue eyes.
Dominic turned the photograph over with trembling fingers. On the back, written in fresh blue ink in Elena’s unmistakable handwriting, were two short sentences:
Maisie is safe with you, Dominic. But our son belongs to the syndicate.
Dominic stared at the photograph, his pulse pounding in his ears.

A son? A second child born in secret six months ago? Who was holding Elena in Paris? And if Elena was alive and free, who had really been controlling the Bellaro family from the shadows all along?
Dominic gripped the edge of his desk, staring out the floor-to-ceiling window into the dark, rain-swept Manhattan night as the music box continued its haunting tune.
