Chapter 2 - the silver keycard

Dominic did not look back at Vivienne. He kept his eyes fixed on Mateo as the security chief held out the silver briefcase.

"Take her down to the lower cellar," Dominic ordered quietly. "Lock the iron door. Nobody speaks to her until I say so."

"You can't do this to me!" Vivienne shrieked as two burly guards stepped forward, grabbing her arms. "I'm your wife! I have rights in this family!"

"You surrendered your rights the moment you touched my daughter," Dominic replied softly.

The guards dragged Vivienne out, her screams fading down the long, tiled corridor. Dominic turned around, kneeling in front of Maisie. He gently wiped a stray tear from her cheek with his thumb.

"Are you hurt, baby?" he asked, his voice softening completely.

Maisie shook her head, holding her small wrist where Vivienne had grabbed her. "I'm okay, Daddy. But... she said something yesterday."

Dominic narrowed his eyes. "What did she say?"

"She was talking on the phone in her closet," Maisie whispered, leaning closer. "She said the real Bellaro child was born in Chicago seven years ago, and that I was just a distraction."

Dominic’s chest tightened. He stood up and turned to Mateo. "Pull the security footage from the library and the private wing for the last three days."

Mateo hesitated, adjusting his holster. "I already tried, Don Dominic. Three hours of footage from Tuesday afternoon were completely wiped from the main server."

Dominic’s face darkened. Wiping the internal mainframe required a master encryption code—a code held by only four people in the world.

"Get the car ready," Dominic said. "We're going to the downtown office."

"Tonight, Boss?" Mateo asked. "It's past midnight."

"Someone inside this house is helping Moretti," Dominic said coldly. "And I'm going to tear this city apart until I find out who."

Ten minutes later, as Dominic prepared to leave the master suite, his encrypted cell phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and looked at the screen.
