Chapter 8 - The silent siege

The aesthetic of the invasion was chillingly beautiful in its precision. Intense tonal contrast painted the grand foyer as Marcus’s men flooded inside. Bennett moved with terrifying grace. He didn't rely on mindless violence; he used the architecture of his own home against his enemies.
He pulled a hidden lever behind a marble pillar, dropping heavy steel security shutters over the main windows, plunging the invaders into absolute darkness. Clara stayed close to his broad back, guiding him through the servants' corridors that she had meticulously cleaned for months.
They navigated the velvet shadows with ease, bypassing Marcus's armed guards. Bennett's physical presence was an imposing shield. Whenever a guard got too close, Bennett would neutralize the threat with swift, silent martial efficiency—no blood, no gore, just the undeniable power of a man protecting his territory.
They reached the central security hub on the second floor. Clara quickly bypassed the localized lockdown using a code she had secretly memorized weeks ago. Bennett locked the door behind them and immediately accessed the external communications array.
"You're calling for backup?" Clara asked, her rosy skin pale with adrenaline.
"I'm calling the heads of the five families," Bennett replied calmly, his fingers flying across the console. "Marcus thinks he can take my throne by force. I'm going to show the world he's a thief."
Bennett initiated a mass transmission, uploading the digitized pages of the ledgers directly to the most powerful crime bosses in the country. He exposed Marcus's twenty-year embezzlement scheme in real-time.
A moment later, Marcus's voice hissed over the security intercom. "You think some old papers are going to save you, Bennett? I have a dozen men outside that door. We're coming in."
Bennett stepped away from the console and turned to Clara. He took her face in his hands, his thumbs gently sweeping across her cheekbones. "I need you to climb out the window and take the trellis to the roof. Don't look back."

Clara shook her head, tears welling in her eyes. "I'm not leaving you."
Suddenly, the heavy security door buckled under a massive impact. Someone was using a battering ram.
